hey guys! a bit of misfortune on our buddy Jason Cohen here in St. Louis...
many of you have seen this airplane at one time or another, either at a fly-in, or from pictures here on FG. about 2 weeks ago, Jason had a bit of bad luck, and dumped his carden on the runway from a wicked downwind. I was lucky enough to get a chance to rebuild this beautiful airplane! I've always wanted to build a Carden, so this was my chance to fulfill that dream:-) I've had my hand at rebuilding wrecked airframes, so hopefully i'll be able to get this one in the air again. here are a couple other planes i've brought back to life: http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...fly-again.html http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...apter-2-a.html ok, a little about the damage: the wings are really in great shape... one wingtip is jut a bit damaged, not a problem at all. the elevators are in good shape as well, but one of the servo boxes is pulled out. still not a big deal. the landing gear is ever so slightly tweaked, the wheel pants are trashed. the cowl is mangled, i'll need a new one. the turtle deck of the fuse has been pulled up slightly, as seen in the pictures. bottom of the rudder is a little chewed up. fuse is pretty damaged, mostly from the wing tube forward. i'll need to build a new motor box. i'm going to take my time on this build, because its going to take me a rediculously long time to get enough money together to buy an engine and all my electronics. oh yeah, and a NEW VEHICLE... this thing is too damn big to fit in my jeep like my 33% and 35% planes. alright, enough talking, heres the pictures! |

Sweeeetttt.. Should come out awesome. Is it possible to talk to the folks at carden and get some of their motor box parts? I know it takes away from the scratch buildy-ness of it, but some laser cut awesomeness couldnt hurt.

thanks guys! im really stoked to get started on this build.
Ya know, thats not a bad idea heligrom, i think i'll do that! yeah normally i would really want to make this plane my own by building everything myself, but since the origional airframe has already been built by someone else, i figured i'd just do what ever it takes to get it back in the air. so in other words, i''l take any extra pre-cut parts i can get! ![]() on my next carden, i will build it from a kit on my own. i plan to get started on this thing very soon...hopefully i can get my building table cleared off tomorow from the mess i made on my last build! then i can start stripping the covered areas that need repaired. i will keep the pictures coming as long as you guys are still interested in seeing them!

Jared,
Let me know if you want to see how I re-built the motorbox on my Carden. If you have the plans, it's easy to cut the sides yourself. |

i've stripped the covering off the front part of the fuse to survey the damage a bit better.
aaah its not so bad! i also posted a picture of Jason with the plane when he owned it that i found on Carden's website. I've taken Heligrom's idea and contacted carden aircraft about parts. Dennis replied VERY quickly to my email, and has been super helpful! He said that he does have motor box parts, as well as a perfect fit cowl ring, cowl, and pants that i will need. He requested pictures of the damage, which i sent just a few moments ago, now just waiting to hear back from him. No work will be done tonight, as it is my wife and I's 3 year anniversery today:-) dinner, movie, no baby screaming, and bit of....well, im sure you know what would happen after that..... SLEEEEEP!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA just kidding!!!

Hey congrats on the new toy plane! And happy anniversary! Btw, chikn you gotta teach me how to get all of these "free" giant-scale aircraft, honestly i wouldn't mind having to rebuild them if they were free! LOL, Good luck! I'll follow the build! Take care!

Jared,
Didn't Mark Trent build that plane? That sucks for Jason. Good thing he still has the other 2 Cam built Cardens though. Good luck on the "re-build!"
