Good point. I never had to pull mine but have used this method to replace hubs on other engines.

I had already placed an order for a new prop hub so i'm sure the losing the magnet won't be a problem with the heat. I'll give those methods a try, thanks for all your help. Also, am I going to have the same problem when installing the new prop hub?

Regarding the battery charging. Regardless of what's considered a "safe" charge rate, if a nimh battery is getting hot during the charge they are taking a beating. None of my 2,000 ma nimh batteries can handle more that .6 amp without warming up more than they should. I have two types, Eneloop and the one that Tower likes to push. The Eneloop is a VERY good nimh and it doesn't like above .5 amp.

As for nicad, not all can be fast charged safely. They have to be rated for fast charging. The basic nicad's are not. Same thing, if they are getting hot during the charge the rate is too high.

No, the reason it needs to be pulled is the locktite, if you clean all the old and cured locktite off the crankshaft and just gently warm up the new hub it will slip right on at least far enough to start the pilot shaft on the end of the crankshaft.

I have been using a 7.4v Lith-Ion regulated down to 5.8 volts

Everyone has their opinions as to what to use but this set up has worked perfectly for me for a long time.

Maybe some years ago but now it is very possible. I have been useing the new Hyperion G3 li-po batterys for a while and they are rated 5C charge, which is pretty fast. And the 5C rating is no bogus it does work! it holds 5C until 75% is recharged and does not go under 1C until 95% is recharged. from "empty" to full in about 12min It does not run hot even if emptying it in a 6min flight recharging at a tad over 5C right after landing.

So I got the new prop hub back on everything worked fine. Then today about two flights in the motor started acting really funny. First what was happening was when i cut the throttle to idle it would take the motor a few moments before reaching full idle, which it's never done before. I actually had to kill my motor on a landing because the throttle would not come back far enough. And now when it runs it cuts out, at almost any throttle position, almost as if there was air in the fuel line, but there isn't. Anybody have any ideas before i tear the carb apart?

is it possible that the front crank seal got damaged from the repair. possibly from heating up the hub or anything. sounds like a air leak to me.

But the thing is that right after i installed it i ran it in my front yard, ran about a tank through it and no problems and had two flights no problem, in the middle of the third flight is when it started acting up.

I think the filter screen in the carb is plugged up.
