Default Wingtote Tail Covers

Due to a lot of interest in my greetings thread I have begun to work on tail cover sets. I need some help to get these sized correctly. I guess the best place to start is to determine the size and type of planes that we want to be able to cover.

What planes are the most common? Do many of these planes have similar shaped tails/rudders?

Would anyone be able to provide me with some measurements and pictures that I can work with for prototyping?

Here is a picture of an early set that we made for a Yak 35%. The set was not finished and lacks any way to attach the covers to the plane.

Thanks,
Kris

I'm thinking that the Dalton/Aerotech 42% Extra's are going to be your standard 40% size stab/rudder. You may be able to make them with multiple velcro attachments so they can be sized tighter or looser depending on the plane.

I'm a fan of the seperate bag for each stab vs the longer stab bag that fits both. I have one of those from Wingtote but I only use it sparingly as I don't like to remove both stabs if I don't have to.

Hey Kris, as far as the stabs go it be nice to have a mini version of the wingbags with a little tube holder.

That is a great idea. With the right size it could also double as covers for some of the popular 50" spn electric models with two piece wing and tube.

That is what I would be interested in also.

Wow, thanks for all the detailed pictures! Will most 35% Edges have the same tail dimensions? I know that Yaks and Edges are common, I'm just wondering if the same tail covers will fit different manufacturers planes.

Thanks,
Kris

Dave Michael stopped by today with some tails so I could trace them and I was telling him that the response and support that I have received here has been overwhelming. I have a lot of work to do now!

My apologizes if I don't respond right away to people's posts, I will try to respond to everyone eventually. If you have an urgent question or need help please send me a PM.

Thanks,
Kris

Guys,

Recently got back from the big iHobby Show in Rosemont (Chicago), IL. The show went well for us and I got a lot of good feedback from pilots on the consumer days. Most of the people I spoke with echoed the same things that were mentioned on FG. I have started working on the tail bags again and some other small ideas that I have received recently.

I was able to walk around and check out some planes to get an idea of the size and shape of the tails out there. I saw the Hangar 9 The Beast up close and was very impressed and got to meet Quique. He was mobbed most of the time, but was a very friendly and personable guy. He certainly has a lot of enthusiasm for his work and The Beast.

Thanks again for all of the help I have received on FG and I will let everyone know when I have more product information to share.

Kris
