Default 4" CNC machined wheel for 50 cc airplanes

We have had lots of requests for a smaller lighter version of our wheels we currently offer for 35 to 40% airplanes. We are now offering a 4" diameter wheel which seems to be the size of choice for the fellows flying the 50 cc planes. They are 1" wide, available for 3/16" and 1/4" axles, and weigh 3 ounces. They integrate perfectly onto our titanium axles. The same machining from 6061 aluminum, engraved, and igus lubricant impregnated bushings. The rubber tire is stiffer than the normal Dubro/Sullivan configuration so it will stand up better during tight turns, will stay on the rim, and does not flat spot. 1000 miles in a trailer could be an exception to the flat spotting .

The photo shows the 4 3/4" and the new 4" side by side.

The rubber density in the tires ( which I do not make ) varies somewhat but the prototypes came out just a hair over 3 ounces each. The Dubro 4" TL wheels I have weigh a little over 3.6 ounces. Strange as it may seem, the tire weights more then the wheel and bushing.

The larger wheel in the 1st post picture is 4 3/4" diameter and 4.5 ounces. I'm not aware of any way to make an aluminum hub wheel with a solid tire for 3 ounces. You can do it with plastic hubs and pneumatic tires but the plastic does not do well with 30 plus pounds airplane weight and air fill tires are a maintenance head ache. One of the German suppliers have them available now, I can't remember who. If you are using steel axles you can save over an ounce per side by going to my titanium axles, then you only need to find another half ounce to be at your 3.
