I have the 6a slider with a Barrett Performance IO-360.my avatar) yes insurance is better with the A version. Yes there are two mods. One strengthens the gear as it fits into the engine mount. The second raises the fork and castle nut a little higher off the ground. I would recommend both, and still land it like a tail-dragger....ie keep the nose off as long as possible. It's the weakest link of the airplane.
I love my plane!

29 hours so far, not including setting up the paint booth. Riveting today took about five hours, as I had to go back and forth between riveting different rivet sizes and dimpling.

I can feel the G's leaving my wallet!
Once I get full-time work again I'll be ordering the wing kit. Sounds like lead time on that is several months.

Not sure if you know about these guys:
http://www.jdair.com/ This venture is done by Darwin Barrie and Jason Krause. Both model pilots and RV owners. Their stuff is supposed to be very nice. Jason is a well known heli master, Darwin is a long time Team Futaba member and avid soaring pilot.

Here are a few shots of the rudder being built. As it sits right now, the rudder skins have been riveted to the skeleton, and the trailing edge piece has been clecoed in position with fuel tank sealant, and an angle bar is holding the part straight until the sealant cures. Once it does, I'll be able to remove the angle bar and rivet the trailing edge together. This process will help keep the trailing edge straight during riveting. Total work time into the project now is a little over 90 hours. Also shown is a flying RV-9 for me to play with until the -7 is done.
Additionally, I had the chance today to sit in a taildragger -7 and get an idea of the visibility on the ground. I was pretty happy with the view - doesn't seem to be as good as the tandem RVs (from the front seat) but it's good enough and now I'm leaning toward building my RV as a tailwheel -7. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
