Default Sound coming from Spektrum DS821 servos?

My set up:
Airtronics RDS8000 transmitter
Airtronics 92824 eight channel receiver
Spektrum DS821 servos
Spektrum NiCd 4.8V, 1100 mah rx battery (reads 5.3V w/ meter)
Spektrum on/off sw.

When I power things up, no linkage connected to any servo, I get a small amount of sound from the servos. It's not a lot or loud, but more of a clicking/popping sound rather than a hum/buzz. A slow ticking? I don't see any movement, but I think I feel something inside the servos doing something...are they just constantly checking their center?

Bad description I know....wish I had some sound recording device I could use to upload a sound track,,,

I've been reading alot about digital servo noise, but this is my first real experience with them, and I'd hate to have an issue when my plane is in the air!

Put me at ease, or suggest some things to check/verify. All replies and inputs are appreciated!

Thanks,
Bob

Sounds normal to me .....the clicking sound is as you say is the servo adjusting itself

I'll add something else just in case you ask.
When no load is placed on the servo it clicks as you've said. Add a slight amount of load using your finger and the servo will hum softly....kinda like a low volume whine even. Add even more pressure and the whine increases in volume to the extent it is quite loud. Hope that helped.

AB Bob, what are you planning on sticking those servos into? Call me spoiled, but I would not even use those for throttle. But thats just me.

Mode One,
Thank you for your reply.
It is reassuring hearing a confirmation from those with experience. I've read alot about digital servos, but this (as stated) is my first experience with them.
Thanks for that extra bit of info., I'll hook them up to the control rods today and "see" what you have described.

Classclown,
I hear you. Nothing expesive. I was given an Avistar trainer that was converted from a trike LG to a taildragger.
I'm working on a BN Citabria, which is also a taildragger, and I wanted some practice with taildraggers before I jump up to the Citabria.

I read these forums, and yes, alot of you guys are spoiled (or, is rich the word! <BG>) Hopefully, as I progress in the hobby, I'll become "spoiled" as well. <G>

You should be ok, as I was gonna say maybe on a trainer. Rich is far from the truth in my situation. Spoiled is in I always get the best stuff for myself, if I can't afford it, I won't just buy what I can afford, I will save up and buy the item when I can. Might take longer to get a particular plane or heli in the air. But I have a lot of other things to fly, so its no big deal. Good luck on your flying. Steve

That's a good philosophy.

My oldest brother once told me, "always buy quality, you'll never be disappointed" ...pretty true statement.

Thanks for your input. I imagine I'll have more questions to come as I progress...
