Hi Everyone,
I've recently completed this project and wanted to share my experiences here on FG. I purchased my Carden kit back in the fall of 2006. Just like many of you, life has its many interruptions. We have moved into a new house, taken on a new position at my work, and had total hip replacement surgery over the last 2 years. Though determination and hard work I've been able to complete my project. I wish the same for all of you with building projects on your work bench. This is my second 35% airframe (the first being an ARF) and my fifth giant scale scale. I did all of my own work (building, covering, PPG Painting, setup, etc) using many of the tips I've gathered from the many forums here on FG. Many thanks to all of you for sharing your talents with all of us. Here are some pictures of it from the maiden day. Last edited by homeblt38; 10-11-2009 at 11:19 AM. Reason: added YouTube Video |

Ottrod,
This is my first Carden and it was built using many of current techniques you see here on FG. My kit was one of the first with the lighter weight foam and fiberglass parts from Carden. I machined the motorbox using a CNC mill and it came out great a 17oz lighter than stock. I built a wing press to sheet all the foam and all these parts came out very straight. It took 8 rolls of covering and over two weeks (full time) for me to complete the covering. I used PPG paint on the glass parts and all and all I am pleased with them. My setup includes the original design DA100 with MTW cans, using 8-8611A servos and a hitec 5245 on throttle for control. The power system is all Fromeco using their regs, dual 5200 li-ion batterys, and a wolverine switch. Plane controlled with a JR 9303 tx and dual 921 rx setup. Don, with Don's Hobbies in KS, helped me with the power system setup and its works very well. Thanks for asking... |

Yes, the hip is great now! Mine was the grow it type so non-weight bearing for 8 weeks, it took a little longer than most. But working very well now!!! Stuart We do need get together and fly! I love for you to see it, you're one guy who would appreciate the work! (plus I have the special servo bolts!) Ben, The AUW on the plane is 29# 11 oz. A little heavier than I planned for but its flying well on a 26/12 Mej and seems to have good vertical. Remember I have a full can system, a very detailed AERO-RC pilot and dash (+8oz), and I have the larger Fromeco rx batteries (7 oz each) and could have used the 2600mah and saved 7oz. My painted parts came our slightly heavy (16oz total) and Dennis with Carden said that 12-16z is common for 35% so another area where I came up a smidgen heavy. There a guy locally with a new AW Edge coming in at 27.5# using a BME, Stock exhaust, no-pilot and single RX setup with small batteries. I have a DA, realistic sounding exhaust, and a robust power system in my plane. I happy with my choices! Thanks for your questions, Don |

Jason,
The wing press is a great way to sheet everything, especially the wings, mine came out so straight. I used 1"x2" x 11 gage tubing, some threaded rod, and then small block chevy springs rated at 350#. Let me know if you have any questions... Don |
