Scary what lurks amongst us. I don't know whats worst, that dork dirtybird or the retard that wanted to fly a model 20 miles out of sight.

Put the ignition on, 3 flips and I am up and flying. I have not had a single problem with it since. Why it was running fine when I left the field one day and then wouldn't start the next,,,,,beats me. But that is my experience.

Do yourself a favor and go ahead and buy a new ignition. You could chase this problem for a while and never be able to build any confidence in your motor until you know for sure. If it turns out not to be the ignition, oh well, now you have an extra and you can move on to the next diagnosis. Just my .02.
I had similar issues however, mine would pop and fire then backfire. Put ignition from my other DL on it and if fired right up. I then called Jodi to see about warranty on the module. He sujested throwing away the stock plug and get the CM6-NGK for it. I did just that and bingo... this iginition is just fine. It was kinda strange how a plug would make it seem like it was way out of time. So now both of my DL's start and run flawlessly. The new DLE-55 with just .5 gal of fuel through it spins a VESS 23A @7350 on a canister. Cant wait till its broken in.... I am quite please just the way it is.

Had similar issues with a friend's DLE 55 straight out of the box. Forgot to tell him about the plug and we were flipping away on the stock plug. Changed to a CM-6 and he got it running...

The ignition on the DLE55 will run 90 min on a 900ma AAA 4.8v pack.
As you increase the voltage the run time is less. A 4.8v pack will run 20% longer than a 6v pack of the same AH rating

TKG, would the run time change if you used A123's with 2 diodes to reduce the voltage? I'm hoping to get four 12 minute flights with an 1100 mah A123 on a twin

Running some numbers for you, a single will draw 600 ma at WOT. Probably 300 ma average for the flight. So a twin will draw 600 ma average for the flight. 600ma X (48/60)hrs = 480 mah. Sounds like that's more than enough even accounting for the mah lost in heat in the two diodes. Basically the diodes turn the excess voltage into heat. But that's heat that's not going to be in the ignition !!!! If you take that 480 mah and add 20% you still don't consume more than 600 mah in your 4x12 minute flights. I say it will work perfectly.

No problem, with 1100MA on a twin your run time is almost 2 hr.
BTW a twin only uses 15-25% more power than a single, not 2x

Joe, I just added the diodes to one of my planes, haven't had a chance to fly it yet. I'll fly 2 flights then recharge. My charger tells me how many mah I have put back in. I usually run a 4.8 pack for ignition and A123's for my reciever. It'll be nice to run the same batteries for everything and just run one charger.

Question; Why turn energy into wasted heat at all? That's like buying a $5.00 six pack using a $20.00 bill and leaving the change on the counter....

I know thinking is difficult for some but think this through and come up with a solution that better solves the quandry.

T.O.M, I have always run the 4.8 nicad packs for ignition, but they can be a pain in the arse to charge. The A123's take 15 minutes to charge. I have tried the Eneloops and they work well, but they take a long time to charge also. I fly just about everyday during the summer so it's nice to be able to quickcharge and go. If I'm not happy with the A123's I can always go back to the 4.8's. Besides, I like to try new things.

Jim, when I go to A123 I'll use the same setup as you. What you're doing is keeping the heat out of the ignition by dropping the voltage to about 5.2 volts with the two diodes. The diodes will last forever if you get the 3 amp or larger ones. I'll probably use these 1N5402: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062578
