Default Reza needs help from Photo Shop Experts

Hi Guys,

I need some help with photo shop or any other software that would do below for me.

Let’s say you take a picture of a person with lots of things in the background, how do you eliminate the back ground. In other words, if you wanted keep the guy in the pic but just a plain white background instead of whatever was in the pic, how do you do that?

Is it easily done if I have photo shop or Corel Draw? Can someone walk me thru this in details please? Treat this like you are teaching an idiot (me).

I am sure there are many of you that can help with this. Please don’t hesitate to post.

Thank you in advance,
Reza

I use gimp. To do that I would cut the person out of the picture, copy, fill the screen with white, and paste him back in. Hope this helps...

Chris, Do I need to trace the object very close to be able to get only the object then cut? If so that is sometimes hard to do. Any suggestions?

+1 for GIMP, zoom is your friend if you are tracing....

PS experts can probably do it faster than I can, but I have been getting good results.

On Gimp, I use the free select tool. I simply draw around the picture and once I connect the circle, it'll adjust itself. Then I copy the selected region, fill with color, and paste it back in. Gimp is a free D/L if you want to try it. I've had great luck with it.

Hi Tex,

I didn't have your program but I did download GIMP. Just trying to figure out how to work it the way I want. Still not much luck.

Thanks for checking in buddy!

Reza, here's a quick pic while I'm getting ready for work. as you see in the pic of the person, I started tracing out on the left side, and it's the free select tool on the toolbar. once you connect the points, right click and hit copy. Then click in teh picture to cancel the free select. Fill the picture with white, and right click/paste him back in.

Geeezzz Fiddy, heck of a topic for an example....

Remember to zoom in, 700% or so, so you are making a really clean line and getting all the details.

Instead of a white background, I prefer to create a new image with a transparent background, then I can place it over whatever I want.

Here's an example, something I did as a joke for our community web site (we had beavers in the pond)....

He was cut out of this picture....

I'm sure others can do a lot better job, but you can see with simple tools in a free program, I was able to even get the details of individual hairs....

And before anyone else does it, yes, I'm talking about beaver hair on FG....

I recommend Fluid Mask, you can use it as a plug-in for photosop or stand alone save and open with whatever software you have. You can go as far as isolating smoke or hair. Check out fluid mask how-to videos and DL a free trial at http://www.vertustech.com/
