DL-50 and DLE-55. They run awesome on regular pump gas.

The major reason for octane in gas is to retard the explosion of the fuel. As the piston compresses the fuel/air mixture, heat is generated. If the flash point of the fuel/air mixture is reached too soon the fuel will start to burn before the spark is generated at the plug and this will cause the engine to ping. 3W engines have higher compression pistons than most engines. The compitetion series engines have 11:1 pistons and really need a higher octane rated fuel about 92-93 octane. DLE engines have 7.5:1 pistons and will run on any octane rated fuel. I don't know what type of pistons DA uses but I would guess that they are less than 10:1 and that is why they recommend regular gas.

One thing I'd like to do for sure is fill my planes with that really good racing gas for during the winter. Sort of like STA.BIL but better. This would be good for my snow blower too since it sits for 9 months. It had problems starting last winter. Carb's don't like to be dry but you can't leave today's gas in them or they gum up and varnish.

1st choice is U4.2- 102 Octane. About $10 gal. GREAT fuel to run in our planes. Takes care of alot of the detenation that happens. Burns VERY clean and has a GREAT smell.
2nd choice is MRX01- 102 Octane. About $14 gal. Again great fuel especially if you are at a higher altitiude.
3rd choice is C10- 96 Octane no additives. About $9 gal. Good fuel that is less expensive. Can also buy VP 110 as a good choice too.

Use lawnboy ashless for the first 5 gallons. After that I would use Redline or H1R at 50:1.
Not sure of the prop for that plane but I would run one on the smaller recommended size so you get a little more rpm out of it. Hope this helps.

Rob
Don't want to burt your bubble, but U4.2 is leaded.. Might as well buy avgas at 4/gallon....Most race gasses here in the states are LEADED. And gee how do you raise the octane without lead?? You put in ALCOHOL.

But for the average modeler, I think it is best to find a local gas station you can trust.
Don't use the BelRay anymore.. Bad choice for the manner they were run.....

C-10 100 octane is not leaded. Using premium grade pump gas is a great fuel for any of our engines, 3w or otherwise.

I will never ask an IMAC or 3d professional competitor about what gas they are using or how they tuned their engines unless I knew absolutely that they knew and understood what they were doing with an engine. Because they can fly has never meant they knew what an engine was about. There's been a few that didn't know how to correctly set up ganged servos as well.

I run super 91 in my ZDZ 210 and DA 150
I have run 100 octane racing in the 210...didn't notice any improvement and I was fouling plugs so I quickly switched back to pump gas.

Well I'll be the odd man out ! I run none of them !!! I'm running Coleman Camp Gas and Bel Ray MC1 used to run Ozark - bottom line the stuff is white gas also known as Naptha

Octane is the same, absolutely sterile, little or no carbon deposit's, plugs are EASY to read, No stink in the house or on the bench, No fouled Walbro screen's or stuck fuel metering needles. Gasses of immediately if you spill it

I have some pretty high time gasser's in my two gas heli's and the rings are clean the port's are clean, and the hone marks still in the cylinder's and jug. Spanking new in side. Almost a sythetic fuel with a synthetic lube package.

Only thing is you must first break in on Lawn Boy Mineral ashless - No Ethanol - no inconsistency from blend to blend depending on the season or where your located in the USA.

Flame Suit is On : but us gas heli guy's have been doing it for year's - awesome stuff - only bad part is is smell's a bit like a camp stove so your always a hankering for hotdog's

I bet you fly at higher altitudes if you can use coleman fuel.
Octane is excellent.

A spark will explode gasoline vapours as well methinks. Cleaning oil drums with steam was prohibited for just that reason. Exploding seems to be quite common with all hydrocarbons if a spark is present.

I think he was refering to the very low flash point of that coalman gas.I wouldn't want to transport or store that stuff in the plane.
