October 15th. Remember that day? Yeah that’s the day every TV channel in the nation spent the better part of an afternoon following the news story of a nine-year-old boy who, allegedly, climbed into his dad’s make-shift air balloon and floated off into the abyss. Of Denver airport, if we want to be factual. And when it finally landed? No kid. Why? He hadn’t really flown away in the balloon, he just accidentally sent it off, got scared and hid. In the attic.

That paragraph above? That was the news of the day. Which probably was the biggest central news focus since MJ died. America, you are where we all live. But the story gets better. Not only is this not the first foray into unneeded television exposure for the Heene family — they were also featured on ABC’s reality TV series Wife Swap — but the family has also used their young children as props against the “pussification” of America. No, for real. Check out this YouTube video the family made (note: not family friendly).

But to be serious for half a moment, this kind of stuff does get me a little mad. It’s one thing to harp on the over-parentification of those who won’t let their kids do anything for fear they’ll scratch their knee. But having your little kids singing about “pussification” and rapping “fa*g*t” like it’s no big deal? At age nine? Just, ughh…

Good find Wood. That just make me believe even more this was all a "publicity stunt".

I agree with Ric. Those parents should be paying for ALL the rescue professionals involved. Your publicity stunt isn't free.

This was a publicity stunt indeed but what ticks me off is that I know some of these producers and such will award these guys by giving them contracts and getting them involved in TV programs. Let's face it, for them those guys
drew 100s of millions of peoples attention. People were watching TV and its commercial!

It's sad. Both the Dad and Mom are screwed up big time! The dad would change the question he had to ask from the kid by saying
"When did you fall sleep? instead of what did you do for 4 hours in the addict"!

You can't teach a 6 year old to lie, its not that easy. "we were doing this for the show"! LOL

On the other hand, I bet this was a good exercise for the FAA and Police on how to handle a situation like that if it were really to happen!

I can't stand seeing that family again but I am sure they would have lots of fan support that admire those kind of things!
a publicity stunt that will either make them (rich) or break them. I bet 99% it will make them!

It would be so easy to ruin this guy..... Invite him and the family onto national TV. Ask him questions about how he made the balloon, how it works. Make it look like he knows what he is doing then slam him with the fact that he knew it couldn't carry Falcon. Slap him with a Multi-Million dollar bill for the rescue. TADA..... Done!

Think of the lessons that would teach his children. Think of the lesson that would teach other hoaxers out there.....

It is a win, win, win situation. Prefect show to do this would be Live with Regis and Kelly. They would suck him in and then WHAM.... Please do it.... somebody.... Please....

This family has also been on the local news before. A few years ago the Dad was riding a motorcycle with "precision instruments" duct taped onto it into tornadoes (with the family following behind in a pickup) for "scientific experiments" to see if tornadoes created magnetic fields. Of course cameras were always rolling... Hmmm, think this guy likes attention?
