Default PAU 30% EDGE

Just recently purchased a used Edge from a buddy after pilling my 25% Edge up a couple weekends ago and now im looking for advice and suggestions as to what to put in this one as for batteries, regulators, engine and so on and what i could get away with without breaking the bank.

Thanks
Shawn

DLE 55 from Valley View RC, 123 Batteries or a single Fromeco 2600mah pack. Sahara regulator (not needed if using 123 batteries) for the receiver, 800-1200mah NiCd/NiMh battery for the ignition. Other option: Smart fly power expander plus, with 123 or NiMh batteries. Futaba 9156 servos or JR8611a's on the control surfaces, including the rudder.

On my 50cc 3D Hobbyshop Extra I have Fromeco 2600 and 1800mah bats for receiver and ignition, Sahara regs, Smart fly ignition cut off, DLE55 with MTW cannister, Mezjlik 23X8 prop, 9156's all around. Quiet, flies great and plenty of power

Thanks Dan, Valley View RC it just dawned on me that there located here in Washington, i like that, do you have pics or video of your DLE performing, how was it right out of the box? Fromeco is definitly the way im going 2600 Relion for the RX with regulator and whats a good NIMH battery for the ignition. Im going to use my Futaba 3010's on all the control surfaces which i have seen first hand already used on this aiframe and a couple others this size with no issues.

I don't have any video, sorry. The engine needed just a little adjusting out of the box, but has run very well and I am happy with it. I would buy another. I ran about 4 or 5 tanks through with the supplied Zoar 22X8 prop, and have since put the 23X8 Mezjlik on it. Put a new CM6 plug in it when you get it and you'll be fine. I drove down and picked mine up in Puyallup. Talked with Jody once, very helpful. I have done business with Tom in the past and really liked his customer service. That's why I bought the engine from him.

A123's for batteries. That way you dont need stupid regs or powerexpanders. As for engines, I've had good luck with the DL's. But if you want to spend the extra dough, go DA. It's awesome to be backed by their awesome warranties and customer service.

If you already have the regulators Zippy Lipos from Hobby King are a good inexpensive battery (I personally have 2 Thunder Power 1350mah Lipos for my receiver regulated through the Smart Fly Powersystem Sport Plus). The Heli guys at our field that use the Zippys are impressed. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idCategory=238

As far as the Futaba 3010 servos go they are only 90oz of torque at 6 volts. I would recommend saving up for the 9156's or comparable servos. I have the 3010s on my Mojo 40 and am not impressed. They are slow, even at 6 volts. Here is what PAU recommends as the minimum in their manual:
Two aileron servos rated at least at 100oz of torque
Two elevator servos rated at least at 130oz of torque
One rudder servo rated at least at 150oz of torque (250oz recommended)

Here is yet another option: This Ignition Battery Eliminator will save both weight and $$$$. http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/WRCIBEF.html This is what is going in my next plane!

My PAU Edge is on the heavy side at 18lbs 11oz with a smoke system. It handles the weight well and is an absolute blast to fly. Your going to enjoy this one

Cheers,
Chris

Thank you Chris for this bit of information, very helpful i will take all of this into consideration before dropping any $$$ on anything. Just checked out the battery eliminator filter pretty interesting concept. Hobby King kicks arse to i buy all my batteries for my foamy from them.

Mine is almost two years old and flys great. It has a DA50 with a 22x8 CF prop. Excellent service from PAU. Also, it is the easiest plane to land.

Wow Shawn; that looks great. If you saved enough on the engine it might be a good idea to rethink your servo choice. Those 3010s suck, too weak and way too slow.
Have fun,

Tom

Thanks Tom! hows eveything? the 3010's are proven to fly this one around thats what John had in this bird and it didnt experience any issues maybe somewhere down the road i'll upgrade but until then i'll stick with these for now. On another note im going to be looking for a nitro engine to put on the front of my OMP 47" Edge know where i might beable to aquire one?

I'm doing good Shawn, sorry to hear you are going to stick with those servos. That is a first class airframe that you are powering with a first class motor and you are sticking 3rd rate servos in it. You can always get someone to say what you want to hear but I'm just saying.............................

I appreciate your input Tom, when i can afford some nice digital servo's i will be putting those in but until then these will get me up and going im not going to be needing a whole lot of servo at this point anyhow i gotta get used to this thing just flying around normal like.
