Default covering tip needed

I HAVE A YAK AND IM LOOKING FOR A WAY TO KEEP COVERING FROM COMEING OFF!
I KNOW TO USE IRON OR HEAT GUN, BUT THAT ONLY WORKS FOR A SHORT TIME.
IS THERE A TRICK OR PRODUCT TO PUT ON TO KEEP COVERING FROM COMEING LOOSE AND STAY LOOKING GOOD?

What covering are you using ? It wont come off if applied correctly as its meant to bond to the wood. Only time it comes loose is if fuel gets under it
Your either using a substandard covering or not applying sufficient heat to it. Failing that then your substrates covered with a dust film.

Judging from your post count, you probably spend more time behind the keyboard, than at the field or in the shop.

........

To the OP, I will always go over a plane with an iron, and right back over the surface with a small towel, gently pressing down on the hard surfaces while the covering is still hot, that tends to help keep the covering in place, especially on all these ARF's.

Does'nt someone make a pen that seals the seams? I wick super thin ca down the seams using those tiny needle type applicators. works good, but do it sparingly as to not flood the seam with too much ca. 50% also mentioned surface prep. When you cover, fine sand the surface. I go 1500. Some people go 2000. Rub the surface down with your hands really well with a vacuem running to pick up the fine particles. Now your covering will stick on very well.

Sounds like your wood has balsa dust on it. You really need to clean (prep) the wood better. Also you may have some old covering that the glue isn't worth a crap anymore.

Is it corners or sharp edges? I always put a small circle of clear monokote on sharp points. Pointy edges tend to get snagged when you clean and sometimes start pulling up.

He asked what the trick to getting it to stick was, so I told him. He did not provide any information to what he was applying it to, whether it was chinacote, ultracote, dusty, balsa, etc. surface. Each one provides a new set of challenges. I answered his question, but didn't provide a solution due to lack of information.

To me, it almost sounds like he is having probs with covering over covering. Need a bit more info on this to give a full blown answer......

More than likely, it is an ARF. And the covering they use where these ARF's are built at, is medocre at best. Had you gone over the covering once it was new and fresh, you may not be having these problems with lifting covering. But hind sight is always 20/20!!!

Will say, that if you have probs with MonoKote over MonoKote, use some trim solve and the lifting/peeling will go away. I did that on my 35% Carden 330, and haven't TOUCHED the covering with a iron, even though I have made a couple of repairs to her. I do not use a gun, as it places too much heat in a single area on a surface. Trim solve will not work with all coverings. Please do not try and use it unless you try it on some covering in a really inconspicious area. I noticed that some colors try to "bleed" if used on different coverings. Again, my observation.
