I only use digital now on my throttle, prior to that never had any consistancy, I think I have JR DS 8231 and a DS 589 currently in my planes, never any problems. Just because it is a throttle, you can not go cheap. What problems are you having, gassers tend to shake the crap out of cheap servos, especially when they are mounted near the firewall with a short rigid pushrod to the carbie.

Well here is a topic that is still very fresh in my mind.

I have just recently nearly paid the ultimate price for skimping on a throttle servo. I have a 35% Hangar 9 Extra 260, I chose to use a no name brand digital servo for the throttle.

I just happened to be in a hover on a windy day, and with no previous indication at all I started to experience erratic throttle response, as a result the plane fell backward out of hover and instantly the engine cut. Not a great deal of height, inverted and slightly down wind and over trees.

I was very lucky to get the aircraft back, at all, ended up a pretty hard landing, costing me a set of under carriage and Mez Prop.

The post mortem revealed the servo was rotating 270 deg from end to end. Any up throttle the servo would travel to one end of its travel, and would stay there until such time as the throttle stick was moved down, then the servo would rotate to its other end point (past where the idle trim would normally stop the servo) this is what caused me to fall out of the hover and what caused the engine to subsequently stop.

So Moral of the story, dont skimp!

cheers,

Jeff

it wouldnt center properly, i would set the idle speed on start up, then it would change inflight, caused 2 dead sticks on sunday, replaced it with a ds8915, see how that goes

Agreed, I'm running Hitech 7985 on both my throttle and choke.

All,
I ran my Airtronics 94151 High speed analogs (98 in/oz at .07) and finally I have one not fail but run erratic. Changed to a 8411 and no problems. My SD-10G 2.4 radio can spot a whimpy analog servo a mile off. Never had problems with analogs till the new radios came out. If I switch to the lesser modulation thats rated for older servos I have no problems but. Im not running in the fast lane when you do that.

Its a sign of the times.

Any fast servo in the 10 to 13 second range is fine no matter what the brand a digi is better as it centers more precisely. Minis and micros work well too.
