Default FTL 52cc what size prop

What up guys, I just maiden my 27% great planes extra 330s today it was successfull! But I'm not happy with the pull out from a hover. She weighs 15.2lb with out fuel and I'm running a 20x10 Ziner prop. The Hobbycity motor runs fairly well I'm surprised for the money. But I need more out of her so I tried tuning the high speed needle and I think I have it as good as she will run. Sorry for being so vauge, I new to gas but have been flying for years with only electrics. Should I try a large prop with less pitch? I don't know if it I can over prop the motor or not, or I want the motor to spin up to rpm easier. I need some help.

You could try a Vess 20B. It might help but those engines aren't really known for power. What kind of rpm are you getting?

try a 20x8 Xoar. I have that on my FTL52. It works fairly well.

DO NOT get your hopes up to high with this engine. If has a lot of displacement, but the power output does not match up with the cc's. Probably has the power of a typical 40-43 cc engine. Don't think for a minute you will get anywhere close to what a DA50 or DL50/55 will do. It just won't happen.

Now with all that being said, I like my FTL.

my buddy has a 20x8, I'll try that. I was worried you guys would say that about the power of the ftl motor. Well for the price I guess you can't complain LOL.

Could I get more power out of a different prop or am I about right for what I have now?

You won't get more power per say, but you can prop for more thrust or higher rpms.

Ok I think I understand. My basic problem is I have not balls coming out of a hover, she just sits there. Will a larger dia prop with less pich help this? I don't car about top speed just quck thrust snaps of the throttle for 3d torque rolling. She seems like a big dog right now.

That's lack of Horsepower. Like previously stated, that engine is not known for its power. If you want more power, you need a new engine. Look into either a DLE55. That'll solve your problem

If funds are short check out this little gem. It's a very nice and precise copy of a DL-50 for a lot less money. Some of the parts are even inter-changeable. This one has a machined case though.

thanks guys for all the advice. I ordered a 22x8 and I think the plane needs to go on a diet also. I'm willing to fly more nose heavy just to lose some weight. What weight would make this motor more 3d able?

It doesn't look like you are catching this.

Realize that just putting a bigger prop won't help at all. The engine does not have enough power to run a 22x8. If you run that prop on that engine, it will probably overheat the engine until it quits.
If you want to run a 22" prop, you'll need to get a more powerful engine.

had a 22x10 zinger on mine. like they said a 22x8 or a 20x10 would have done better. I have had one on a great planes 50cc ultimate and a hangar 9 27% 260. the ultimate would only hang. however the 260 will 3d. I would keep it under 15lbs if you want to do any 3d 11-13lb would be allot better. The motor was also very reliable.
