Default Dolphinco MX2 Electric Build

Hi Guys,

as the heading suggests, I will be doing a building thread one of the latest offerings from www.dolphinco.com.au this is the 57" Mx2.

What can I say, I have loved the Kermitt scheme from the first time I saw it and could not justify another big plane, so have chosen to go for the 57" version and will set it up as an electric Park flyer.

So here are a few pics of what I have found as I have opened the box. The kit is an ARF and comes complete with hardware for nitro engine power option which fuel tank, composite engine mount and also motor box for an electic option.

The Rudder (pull / pull) and tail plane are full aerofoil shape, the canopy and canopy surround are a one piece moulded plastic, so there is a seemless transition from canopy to surround. The kit comes complete with Carbon wing tube, aluminium undercarriage, fibre glass wheel pants.

Also included is fibre/composite servo arms and control horns and ball links for all control linkage connection.

I must admit I was more than pleasantly surprised with the finish of the covering material, not a wrinkle, bubble or lifing edge to be seen.

So if your interested stay tuned and I will add more pics as I go through the build.

cheers,

JEff

Still working throught the possibilities at the moment, however the motor will be one of these

http://unitedhobbies.com/hobbycity/s...eed_Controller

I havent decided on servos yet, as the recomendation is for full sized servo's however I would prefer to cut out some weight and believe the full size servos could be an over kill. I need to do some homework on this aspect of the build.

cheers,

Jeff

OK did a little bit more on the weekend.

Hinged the ailerons, which are a cyno hinge, when doing so I glue a couple of hinges into the aileron surface and a couple into the wings. I have found this makes it easier to get the hinges to line up when fitting the aileron to the wing.

I install the fibre control horn into the aileron surface prior to fitting the aileron to the wing. The slot that the control horn fit into are spot on and provide a nice tight fit and do not require any adjustment to get the hole in the contol horn directly above the hinge line.

I have bared the horizontal stab section to facilitate glueing into the fuse. One picture shows the wire elevator half joiner. This is 3 mm spring steel and I do think it would be sufficient however, I am choosing to use two elevator servos, so will ommit the wire when mounting the elevators.

Cheers,

Jeff

Great stuff Jeff ! Got this plane and will be doing a Build thread on RCG and a full review in Airborne Magazine issue after next. My setup will be JR539 servos / Duelsky Xmotor / 16x8 prop / 5s 3700 / 5s4500 flight packs / 60 amp ESC. I agree the qulity looks great for the price. Instructions are crap ! but its looks a very easy build. Keep us posted

Finally got my finger out and finished this plane off, build thread was a bit of a bust, but then again it really just slots together without much drama.

Ended up using the following gear,

Motor,

Tunigy SK 50-55
Tunigy Plush 80Amp speedy (these things are bullet proof)
Aileron & Rudder servos, BMS-761DD Low Profile Digital Servo 4.4kg /
Elevators BMS-385DMAX Digital Servo (Metal Gear) 4.2kg These are micro servo's and would have to be the best micro digitals I have come across, excellent centering and good torque.

Battery 5 s 3700mah Rhino's

I am still playing with CG and setting however each flight it is getting better. Rock Solid in harrier both upright and inverted, does wicked inverted flat spins. Seems to be fairly short coupled so the elevator is pretty sensitive in hover, I have been a little dissapointed to date with Rudder authority, however that still could be a CG thing at the moment.

All in all, I look foward to putting some more flights to get it dialed in better.

cheers,

Jeff
