Also got the new cowl mounted up and vent holes cut in. The exit hole on the bottm is 3 times the area of the inlet holes. Should get some good airflow through the cowl. In the one photo you can see the ESC is in the direct path of the airflow. The 2 smallerholes are right along side of the motor can. It should come down a couple of degrees from the last time.

Getting ready to purchase the running gear for my Bipe,,,,,,,,A60 18L looks like the best motor of the three? I see everyone using 12S with the A60 series-----I am assuming Hacker only has min. specs. here?.......I am going to use this plane for Freestyle next season so its got to have lots of poop

Which Ultimate is that ? 10-300 from who? What size ?

I have the Aeroworks Ultimate 20-300 on gas. I love it. I have considered doing it electric, but there are 2 things keeping me from it. First it is 18 .5 lbs dry with the gasser. It would easily top 19 lbs as electric. Pobably closer to 20. I would have to go up another motor size than the A60 series. I would probably have to go to an 80cc equivalent set up. Big dollars.
Then the next issue would be battery access. Mine doesn't have a top hatch for access. I would either have to do some major surgery to the airframe to create access, or, remove the lower wing to change the batteries.

This is a World Models Bipe 27% (Early Aeroworks) with a removable hatch..........It would probably be heavy, as a stock plane but I have been spending a bunch of time & effort to shed some weight.....CF wing/stab tubes & anti rotation pins, removing unneeded sheeting, plywood, etc,,,,,I am thinking this will be lighter, electric, than a gas version unmodified............Before I get more deeply involved with cost, what weight for a bare airframe (no servos, RX battery, ESC & motor) would give me a floaty, powerful flyer with this motor??.......This weighs 6.5 - 7 lbs right now, with some more dieting to go yet........

If you can come in at 18 lbs or less, loaded with batteries, It will be a good flier as a Biplane.

Also would anyone know if the castle creations 110hv speed control would work with this motor, do I have to program it? the prop I intend to use is a 24x12 apc electric prop.

Hey Baj, if you look on RCU find the thread Rick Ultravitch has on his 110" OV-10 bronco he has a bunch of info on the Hacker A60 motors and setups/amp draw and settings. A buddy of mine is putting two of them in a 140" aerocommander and I have one on an OMP profile edge. I went cheap and am running a hobby city 100HV amp speed speed control w/a 22-10 apc prop. If you have good ventalation air over the speed contral a 75 amp one is adequate as on 12 cells it is pulling about 65 amps as I recall w/the 22-10. The watt meter was 3300- I do remember that so you could do the math and figure the peak amp draw. If you are going to run the 24-12 on 12 cells it could pull a bunch more amps..

Thanks Bud for all the info,
but before I can get to that stage I need to buy a shaft for it, my buddy gave me the motor after the crash so I need to fix it.
I will go get the info from rcu as you have pointed to it. man those Hk prices are real good,
hey thanks again

Baj,the castle HV110 works well with the hacker a60 motors.I have one on an 87 SHP Extra from 3dhs on a 16L The prop is 24x12 in the winter and 22x12 in the summer aero model should be able to help you with a shaft for your motor.I hope this helps.Depending on what version esc you get,you will need to program your controller. The cable to program with your pc is only arond 20 bucks and the software is free on castle web site.Eeezy peezt.I hope I helped you little bit.

Hey guys. I just got an a60-18l. Ill be installing it in a 2.64 meter pilatus porter. Running on 12s with a 24x12 Xoar. Do u guys think I'll be happy with the performance. It's not a 3d plane but I do want a lot of power because I'll be towing gliders in the future. Plane should be between 15 to 20 at the most. Should I return the hacker mount and get the mad dog?

Lastly how the heck do I mount a 24x12 Xoar (gas prop) on this thing. The adapter fits but on goof half way thru the prop and it sits so far out on the shaft.

Really you need to be using an electric prop. Xoar makes an elec. prop in that size. the motor is plenty powerfull for that plane and should tow with ease. The motor is a good match for 15-19lb planes that are intended for 3D so it will be a good match. Also the Mad Dog is a much better designed mount and alot stronger, damn near unbreakable. But if you are not going to be 3D'ing you should be OK with the Hacker mount. Just make sure you have the Hacker mount solid across the entire base and not on any kind of standoff and you should be good to go, but keep an eye on it for safety reasons as they have been known to fail. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info Pickle. It looks like this setup is pulling near 3500 watts? I also have a master spin 170. More future proof when I go bigger though I'm having second thoughts on the extra coin of this esc.

I take it the big xoar electrics are 8mm? The only electric 24" xoar i can find is a 24x10... no 24x12.

Also how do you think I'll like having 5000mah? When I start towing I'll most likely double it but for casual flying... do you all think 5000 is enough?

it is hard to find 24x12 zoars anymore.but you do need an electric prop.also I would def get a Mad dog mount, but Mr Pickle is right,if youre not gonna be 3ding the plane you may be ok,the hacker mount is too weak for 3d..I broke 3 of them on my shp before getting a mad dog mount.

I have a mad dog mount on my profile and it is great.. But make sure you take your dremel to the sharp edges.. A couple of burrs cut thru the insulation the wires to to the motor and poof-- I let all of the smoke out of the esc and had a small fire..- I have a bunch of flights on the hobbyking/turnigy 100amp esc running 12s on this and it has worked flawlessley all summer.. After running both this and the castle, the extra$$ for the castle would be hard to justify for me.. I have several smaller Hacker speed controls and they are great, but I don't think I would spring for the extra for it either... The A60 is a great motor and my OMP edge it seems to perform better than it did with a good running bme50. I ran a gas prop on mine for a couple of flights, the motor makes a bunch of power and the extra strength is not necessarily a bad thing, just make sure you can get enough threads on the nut..
