Default Webra 1.20

I have a Webra 1.20 on my Ultimate Biplane. One of the OF's at our field suggested blocking one of the ports of my Pitts-style muffler to get more pressure to the tank, thereby increasing fuel to the engine. Is this necessary? Good idea/bad idea? I'm OK with the performance now. Of course, more power is always better, but I don't want to create more problems doing so. What say ye?

Is the engine running lean? If not, what good would more fuel to the engine do other than to flooding it and causing less power, not more.

On the other hand, if the engine is running lean and you can't adjust the needle any further, than it might do you some good.

Bob,
Are you saying blocking one of the two exhaust pipes?

Blocking off an outlet tube will give you more tank pressure and also backpressure on the engine which in turn will probably cause problems such as overheating.

basically to check that you have the correct backpressure is fairly easy. If it transitions smoothly through the midrange your fine!!! That means both the high and low end needles are doing there job. If you want to get more fuel to the engine get a pump.

Do you have a fuel draw problem? is the engine having problems with sucking fuel to the carb?

Yes you could block or partially block a exhaust pipe, and it would increase the backpressure. But usually a increase in backpressure means less power coming out of the engine too.
I would suggest putting in a one way check valve on the pressure vent line to the tank, so that any built up pressure doesn't leak off quickly when you let off the throttle.
You could also drill out the muffler pressure fitting or put in a larger fitting to get more exhaust pressure too.

If it is a fuel draw issue a small header tank is the simplest solution if you have room for it.

I don't really have a problem. Just one of the guys who happens to be a "more power" kind of guy advised me to block off one of the exhaust pipes in order to get more back pressure into the engine. He said Webras needed that extra boost. I think I'll keep it the way it is. I'm not racing the plane, so as long as it's flying right, no need to fix something not broken. I was curious if this guy's advice was commonplace, or if he was trying to give me his own opinion. Sounds like it's not a common thing to do, so I'll leave well enough alone.

This is more of a fix for the big Super Tiger glow engines. I've never heard of it being used on a Webra. Question, is it a pumped engine?

It is not a pumped engine. I flew it today. 4 flights and it was Friggin' Sweet. I will leave it alone and go fix something that really needs fixing (like the broken prop on my Extra that got in the way of a fence pole.
