Default Easy question about cowl/spinner back clearance

Hey All,

I am getting ready to mount the firewall in a 35% Extra300 and need to decide how much distance I want between the cowl and spinner back (think engine placement). I have always been under the impression that I want the distance between the two to be as little as possible but I thought I would get some input from you guys. Obviously I don't want to mess this up so I thought it is better to look stupid for asking how to do it right than to look stupid for doing it wrong. Right now I am considering mounting it such that there is a gap of about 5mm.

Is the assumption that the space should be as little as possible correct or is there a reason to increase the distance between the two to more than 5mm?

Thanks in advance.

Only reason to have a 5mm gap or so in an Extra is to allow to change thrust (up, down, or right, left) and not cause the spinner to dig into the cowl after you install thrust washers. 5mm sounds like a safe gap to start.

Hope this helps, Dan.
