Default Wing Rock

Need help: I have a Wild Hare 88" Edge. I'm trying to get reed of the wing rock when in a harrier. I am new at this and am not sure if its my set up or something on the plane? I have seen videos of planes that were pooped in this attitude and they are steady as a rock. Your help would be appreciated!!!

There will usually be a little rock that you will have to overcome and adjust to, but to help, the plane needs to be light as possible and your CG will take a huge part in it. Should be a little tail heavy for 3D stuff.

You may try spoileron, both ailerons go up 5-10 degrees at a flip of a switch, I to have trouble with wing rock and I'm subscribed , as to what works best. I put my flaps on a three way switch with spoilerons up neutral is netural down is flaps down. But I never use flaps and the spoilerons did help some. Mostly I correct with sticks but you gotta stay ahead of the rock to cancel it out.

The plane came in at 18.5 lbs. It has carbon fiber stab tube, landing gear, tail wheel, and spinner. Waiting for carbon wing tube, it just shipped yesterday. It has a DLE-55 with a header and canister. It seems a little tail heavy right now. When I go inverted it is seems to rise a little. Should it be more tail heavy?

If on the 45 upline inverted the plane rises, then your too tail heavy. This can also cause the wing rock, you just have to find the money stop. Move the cg back to the nose slowly and keep trying it. Like I said, you wont always get rid of the rock, just can help it some.

I think 18 pounds is a little heavy for a 30%, but keep playing with it.

You might also try pointing the nose up a little more in the harrier. Every plane will fly a little different. Just give a little more elevator and throttle to keep it there.

If your climbing when inverted I wouldn't go back any more. Check if your elevators are in sync. The rest is up to you you cant just pull back on the stick and all is well. Dont give up, work the elevator, ailerons and throttle to find the sweet spot. Some planes are a little more diff to get locked in. Experiment with your elevator throws also.

I will try these suggestions. The only problem I have now is the weather holding out. One of the down falls living in Michigan.

Wingrock is eliminated by your thumbs/fingers. Setup can only help. Most airframes like a little cross-control to calm them down.

When the wings are rocking what imputs are you using to stop it?

Very accurately timed small aileron inputs will dampen this. Only a gust of wind or too much throttle burst will get them rocking again. Just repeat the dampening procedure. Only a little blip of left or right aileron at the right time will settle them again. To be honest after you get the hang of it, it's hard to describe exactly what you're doing to all the sticks. Once it becomes natural your brain and fingers go into auto pilot. I found that on windy days lowering the angle of attack will help me keep moving forward. Otherwise it's hard to keep it moving across the deck...it just hangs there in a harrier/hover.

Yup, I second that. One day it will just come. Little inputs to over correct what the plane is doing and like AHP said, try a few clicks of rudder and sometimes it will lock in better.

Yeah I agree with AHP too....I use rudder and aileron together to keep it locked in. I use rudder to stear when I'm doing ovals and figure eights on the deck. But I also use rudder together with aileron to keep the wings from rocking while I'm going straight. The plane might looked smooth and locked in but my fingers and thumbs are moving almost all the time.

Hey AHP still got that video of you 3D'ing that CAP? That was a good video.

seems to hold a straight flight path.. you gotta hold a bit of rudder.....

and I can't 'splain it, but it is almost like esp..... you just learn the subtleties of the plane and can learn to anticipate a wing drop..... seems like if you time stopping the first time the wing wants to drop, that will do it....
