Default Construction Cradle for 2.2m - 2.6m planes

I am about to start my first 50cc assembly / build and I realise my work bench and cradle won't be suitable for anything over the 1.20 size nitro’s I’m used to. (I assume I still need a cradle)

The bench I've solved with a solid blank door on two trestles. It's good because I can dismantle it and store the three pieces in the garage.

Can anyone advise where to get a large cradle or how to build one please? Location Sydney Oz.

I have to date bought my larger planes RTF and have a 2.6m I’d like to modify too. So need to cater for both 50cc and 100cc.

Many Thanks
Gil

Hi Guys ,
take a look at this and the next episode ;
http://thewoodwhisperer.com/episode-...e-torsion-box/
It will be big and bolted together but that's the only way to have a straight table ...
Greetings,
Bruno .

Mine cost $400,000, but work payed for them. They also kept the electron microscope.

I got them when I was assembling a 100cc yak and was amazed it was a perfect fit.

I use this as a table to work on 'planes. Just the right height and lets you easily walk around it. Just cover the top with a 2 " piece of foam.

PVC is light weight, and easily storable and transportable, if needed.

I use a Robart Super Stand: http://www.robart.com/Tools.aspx

This will hold up to a 2.6m plane, without wings. Probably should use two at a time. Not too expensive.

bruno,
Way over the top for an assembly. I don't have time for scratch builds. Maybe in 10yrs.

Patrick H,
I am off to Bunnings this morning to see if I could get a large, really thick polystyrene sheet to use to make something similar to what you have.

RollingHarrier,
That is such a cool and simple idea. That is similar to the trestles I have. I would only need to take the door blank off (my table top) and adjust the clamp leafs.

Jim in Dallas,
Thanks, I couldn't find this one. I now see they're available in Australia for about AUD$34 +postage.

Many thanks all
I now have several options, for one of which I already have the equipment. I’m off to Bunnings to see if they have the polystyrene sheet.
All the best
Gil

i just built this for my 30% @ 35%ers. cost about $10 to build and very sturdy and easly made. when your done remove a couple cross brace screws and it folds up. i use carpet pad for pading the airplane from rash. i think i make a tray for the center section to hold some tools.

I made a cradle and attached to a steel sawhorse. Cost under 30 bucks and only takes half hour to build. Legs fold up and you can take it to the field as a stand too..

I found my fold away lader was perfect for up to 2.6 airframes.

Now I just happen to have one of them.
Lateral thinking.
