So dad and I have gotten a lot done on the Extra in the past few hours. We also found out that all the hinges were even pre glued so that saved a ton of time.

Here is a list of things we have done so far:
  • Gap seal all the hinge lines.
  • Install all the aileron and elevator servos with the Secraft Servo arms. (I chose those arms because they are light and strong but also have a securing bolt on the side so not only do you have the servo screw to hold the arm on but you also have this bolt on the side which does a great job of securing the arm in place)
  • Make the mounts and install them to mount the rudder servos in the tail. ( I decided after having some of the pull -pull cables stretch and snap over the years with many flights that I would put the servos in the tail. The other reason for this is saving weight. By putting them in the tail, I eliminate one servo, the tray and the pushrods to link all the servos as well as the big bell crank and an MSA10)
  • Mount the cowl. (the cowl already came with 5 bolts for the rear of the cowl to the firewall, but it is necessary to put bolts along the side of the cowl to secure it. For this I chose to use the new Wide Washers from Secraft along with the rubber backing so that I could make the bolt nice and tight and not scratch the paint. Also the wide washers increase the surface area of the clamping pressure to secure the cowl from flex or vibration.)
  • Mount the 3W 170 to the nose.
  • Start the pipe mounts and made the headers.

Here are some pics of those things. If there is anything you guys would like more details on please let me know as well if you want more specific pics of anything in particular.

Time for a break from the shop…….

I have the TOC/SD-Models version and it's a great flyer (just got back from flying it, actually). I'm running a 3W 150 TOC w/ Pefa cans and 5955's all the way around. Mine's right at 39lbs with no attempts at lightening and battery overkill. It tracks nicely, flies very light and looks good in the air. It has a lot of rudder authority, but there's a lot more coupling (pitch and roll) than I would have expected. Nothing a little mixing can't take care of, though. Honestly, I think it's a better 3D/Freestyle plane than precision, which is cool with me, because mine's just a knockaround plane anyway. Mine feels a little 'loose', but that may be due to my CG. It does killer sloooow rolling harriers - all of the surfaces have a lot of authority in high alpha.

are you planning on using the stock spinner? from what i hear people have had those spinners break on all the sizes. turns out they are a die cast spinner aso they arent very strong.

One recommendation due not use the stock spinner it is cast and will flex and crack or time get a True turn other wise looks good Dino

thats funny harv we both posted about the spinner
