Why did you guys feel the need to use the vinyl on the motor box. Also how did you find the quality of the construction, was there a need to reglue or strengthen any part of the plane?

Hi Tony

Hope all is good with you. The plane is a great kit so far there was NO need to strengthen any part of the kit. The kit can be finished in a short time. Less than a week. I can only work on it at night for an hour or two. The Vinyl on the motor box was just to add bling. Thought we would try something different. At this time I just have the wings to do but my wife has a long to do list for me so not sure how much I will get done this weekend.

Below are some more pics of the finished motor box

I have about 40 flights on my TOC Extra 260 with a DA170 and on my 4th flight, the firewall fell off. Luckily, a buddy of mine noticed it on the ground after it had just started to come loose at the end of the flight. All that saved the motor from completely coming off was the cowl and the aluminum angle that was installed from the factory. I ended up making a new firewall out of 3/8" aircraft ply and tossing the aluminum angle. I also replaced the balsa tri stock with some higher quality balsa, pinned the firewall with a bunch of 1/8" dowel and I also fiberglassed the motorbox sides as well......it isn't going anywheres this time..LOL. Not saying that yours will fall out, but is is something to be mindful of.

P.S. - it is a fantastic flying plane. You will like it. Tracks and grooves very well.

Hi Ramz

Thanks for the heads up. When i mounted the firewall i also put a 1/4 sq piece of hard wood in front of the firewall on the sides. I think you can see that on some of my first posts. I will watch for it in any case Thanks again

my firewalla also came loose as well. except the person who built mine replaced the angle aluminum with a wider peice and instaleld it on the front of the motor box rather thant he inside. so even with the front screws missing the firewall wouldnt pull forward....as much. luckily i found the problem.

I understand why the firewall falls off, that's the one piece they let us glue in place

Richard, are you going to have a baffel that will keep air from going under the motor and out.

Hi bgold

yes look at pictures on page 7 I baffled behind the motor, I built a false firewall and also in front, I do not think I need to baffle the sides. Let me know if you want more pictures of the baffling.

I am just about finished building the plane. It is a great kit. There are some small odds and ends to do but the last thing to do is to trim the canopy and glue it to the hatch. I do this last because I hate doing this job so I put it off. At this point there is nothing else left to do so it is time to do the canopy.
