Default RCGF "B" Line of Engines

Does anyone out there have any hands-on experience with these engines? I have one of the 50s and one of the 62s to test out. So far I've only taken them apart and done some measurements on them to see how their finish machining/plating is. I'll be running them soon but thought I'd try and get some info from anyone flying them.

That's what I've been told Milton. I wasn't familiar with the engines at all. I guess they've made some upgrades to them so I figured I'd see if anyone on FG had used them in the past to see what might have changed. I have to tell you that after mapping the cylinders and inspecting the internal parts it appears to be a very impressive engine. How it runs remains to be seen but I can tell you the two I have are machined very well. Both bores are round within .0006". Forged steel rods and cranks, machined cases. The 62 appears to use the Zenoah cylinder so it's basically a rear induction Zenoah 62. The 50 looks for all the world like a DL-50 with a machined case and a different reed cage.

Does look like a different cylinder than the original RCGF 50, looks a lot like the DL.

SV engines told me about 3 months ago they were using the same cylinder as DL, but as in another post if they are using cheap bearings all is still lost, Not saying they are.

Before I crashed I had a RCGF 50 and I really loved it.

From a female's point of view it was really easy to start, it ran great and had plenty of power for my 27% Edge!!! Also, I flew the crap out of it and never had any problems with it overheating.

I couldn't have asked for a better engine.

These have the same rod and crank as the DL and I believe the cylinders are out of the same supplier that does the DL. I pulled the wrist pin bearing but needless to say there aren't any markings on a caged needle bearing. No place to put them. LOL At their cost it just amazed me that there weren't more of them out there. Like I said though, I'll have to see what power they produce first. I'll check with the company to see who's bearings they are using. Seems to be a lot of them in use in Europe.

Any idea how many hours you had on the engine? What fuel/oil mix did you run?

Thanks buddy. I know there is a South African importer who has been selling them and thought maybe some of the U.K. crowd had jumped on them. Price seems to be right there too!

Hope so. I browsed the net and found one video of a guy flying the 62 and it looked like it had plenty of power. I may bolt the 50 up to a stand and run it with a Vess 22A today. Pretty grim outside here today. Typical fall misty fog.

Al,

I did some of the initial looks at the RCGF 100. It had some issues they later took care of. They sent me a later version of the 100, at a price slightly higher than the dealer cost of course, to do more testing. Funny thing, they had advised me to expect one of the upgraded production engines to offset my efforst with the original. Instead I was charged enough for a little bit of dealer profit when I wanted the new production engine. I never bothered to do any more testing with the new engine due to work schedules that became mandatory shortly after obtaining the new engine.

The original 100 I would not run for fear of failure, but with the upgraded parts it was an acceptable engine that performed well enough to effectively fly a 25 pound aerobat. BTW, that South African dealer is a real good person. I had to go to him for parts when I crashed the upgraded original version. There were zero parts available in the U.S. at the time, which was about a year after the initial product release. i do not know if that situation ever improved because the RCFG authorized U.S. repair station never called me back as he was supposed to when the parts became available. The U.S. dealer pretty much let me down where parts were concerned.

I parted company with the product line after the parts availabilty issues became evident. At the time, when you managed to get parts from somewhere in the world, there were some issues with parts consistency. RCGF was making so many changes in their engines the replacement parts for one would not fit another due to design changes that nobody was keeping track of. However, this was over a year ago so they've had more than enough time to correct those blunders.

This is the first time I've ever mentioned my reasons for suddenly going silent about RCGF products.

Thanks Pat. I'm wondering if that is what the "B" designation is all about. Hopefully they've completed their upgrades on this line of engines. Ron will support any engines he sells, I know that, but I'm really at a pause to back anything I haven't tested hands on and have a good feeling about after the XYZ incident. So far these engines impress me. Hopefully their performance will too. Here's the video I found.

Okay, I found this one on the 50cc "B". Problem is it doesn't say what prop he has on it.
