Well I have determined that its not the receiver, well the (ar7000 was the problem at first), and but rather the radio, considering I had a new ar9000 receiver in the plane and it locked up in flight after 4 sucsessfull flights here's the video and the crash

where did you have the power plugged in to your reciever with that smart fly. i ask because you cannot plug the power leads from the smart fly into the power ports on the recievers. it will mess with the reciever and put it into bind mode or other weird fuctions.

I am seriously considering now that a voltage drop occurred in the Tx battery, but I can't confirm that yet.

Hey Seth,

Came across your post while cruising for info for my new 35%'r and figured who better to ask! I run the same Battery -> Receiver -> Servos setup on all my 30%'rs but am getting information overload on different 35% setups. I'm gonna run 7955's on all surfaces w/matchboxes on ailerons and single servo on each stab/rudder. Do you still think I'm OK to skip the regulators if I'm using an AR7000 or AR9000.

Thanks and really appreciate the help!
Tim

I fly all my 40% and 35% stuff without any power expander stuff. No issues. Why? Its not needed. Power expander is just 1 more possible failure point.

I use A123s, so I'm even lighter! Battery -> Receiver -> Servos. KISS! (Keep It Simple Stupid Method). Much less to go wrong in my setup.

Just the way I roll.....or fly. But thats me. Do what you want to do.

Just out of curiosity.. If you are going to use 123's why would you need regulators? In My 35% I ran twin lipos "with" spektrum regs inline to a 921 just because the servos werent rated for 7.4v. I also had three match boxes. One on each wing, and one on the rudder. I had a Smart Fly sport reg in my 50cc. Awesome little setups from smartfly, and their customer support is on spot on but i just realized in didnt need it in the 50 or 100cc airframes.

On another note, I read this whole thread for Shizz and Giggs and find the OP looked for a reason to blame everything other than the fact it was the receiver being vibrated too much.. Then states it was the radio. Convineniently the camera goes away from the plane when he "locked out" yet it looks like he messed up his roller and nosed over.

can somebody please explain the problem with plugging a smartfly into the power ports on a spectrum reciever. And where did you get this info.

I just had a bad crash after my receiver came unbound. I was using a smartfly regulator with two power leads, one plugged into each power/data port. It worked fine for about 30 flights, then suddenly it unbound itself.

John

it is on the smart fly instructions. http://smart-fly.com/Products/PowerS...er%20Guide.pdf look under reciever connections. it can cause the reciever to unbind. not sure how but even after talking to them personally it is a big thing not to plug into those ports.

JR922 Power safe reciver with 2 A123's plugged straight into the reciver and matchboxes for the wings, or program your wing servos to match. Simple, light and it works.

My only catch is my DX7... In my 30%'rs I run an AR7000 to 5 7955's off 2 6.0v nimh on a batt share. Was gonna run two servos on a matchbox in each aileron but thinking if I added two more servos into the mix A123's would help provide steady current. Just want to make sure I don't brown out half way through a wide open snap-a-hover! Really just trying to keep as simple as possible...

Take a closer look at the specs on the BatShare.

I would not run one due to the limited current capability.

if it were me and i do have a 30%er, get rid of the nimh batteries and the bat share. just get the a123's like you said into a fromeco wolverine switch{prefered} into 2 ports into the receiver. you will have to "Y" one power wire into a servo wire. either rudder or throttle would be my suggestion.
