I'm working on a science project and need to know what airfoil a boeing 747 has, particularly around the tip.
Thanks, JP

JP .....youch.....Long time ago I googled NACA foils and a really good site had all the profiles for so many planes past and present. Theres not a lot of info on NACA when you google it so you should find it fairly quickly.

Dont think you will find they are NACA ones at all, they are Boeing propriety ones. I think they have about half dozen, called the BAC463, BAC464, BAC465, BAC466, BAC467 and BAC468.
A good site for airfoil info - http://www.ae.uiuc.edu/m-selig/ads/aircraft.html

the wings on the 747 are made out of "foil"??? that's kinda scary!
(i had to! LOL) tell us more about your project. i like to hear about "good" school projects once in a while. our local system doesn't really challenge the kids in the science dept.

Thanks for all the help guys!
. Thanks for your interest in my project, basically I am going to build a wing section and a winglet and test different winglet designs and test them in a wind tunnel. In a few days I will post my introduction that explains my project a little bit more.JP

nice!
Drag is very difficult to measure on small models!

Am interested in your project. What do you prepose to do with this information? If you are going to apply this info to a model, I feel you will be disappointed with the results. Please keep us informed. Cheers

Take a look at some supercritical airfoil sections and that will give you a good idea. That thing cruses at close to the speed of sound so they have to use special sections to keep shocks from forming on the upper surface. What reynolds numbers are you looking at running your expreiments?
