Airplanedude, if you go with a DW Yak-54, I would go with the E-flite Park 400, and get the 38". It really flies like an IMAC plane, and 3D is amazing. Here's a video of me flying mine along with another plane.

There are a jillion small foamies which wil lwork well
The DW stuff is great
IFyou want one which looks like the larger models,
try this:
buy the PA extra 260
get a motor a bit larger than the one you have -something about 300+watts
thismodel all up weighs 32 ounces inc a good 2100ma 3 cell pack it is a FULL 10 ounces lighter than anything else in th same catagory inc EXTREME FLIGHT small models
These tiny electrics will teach you a LOT
Don't expect windy weather flying to be great but you can work out routines and expect basic type responses -such as larger models will do.

ive got the dw foamy 48'' juka, it flys great in the wind and if you want to go to a non foamy electric later like an ef extra of pa extra 260 you already have all of the components. i can fly the entire sportsman sequence outdoors in the wind plus some extra hucking using 3s 2200 batts.

My practice and warm up plane is a Hyperion Sniper EPP foamy. Powered with a Hacker a20-20L if I have the number right and a CC PH25 swinging a 10 X 4.7 SF prop. It's a larger foamy that can be hot glued back together in seconds if you duff it in. I have had this plane for 2 seasons and it still flies like new and takes a beating. See it here. http://www.allerc.com/Snip-JP.htm I did the carbon tubes in the fuse and wings to stiffen it up. (It comes with crappy wire) and then installed a servo for each aileron (Original set up used one servo) Everyone that I have let fly this plane has loved it and a lot of those guys have the airfoilz. http://www.allerc.com/product_info.p...oducts_id=2753 Oh I forgot I fly mine on a 3S 1550 for 12 to 14 minute flights.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
I think I am going to stick with a larger foamie because of my budget and flying space (for winter)

I was doing some looking, and am stuck between two planes right now. The Airfoilz Edge 540 NX, and the Airfoilz Edge 540 FF.

What are the advantages of the FF over the NX, which would you prefer?

Thanks

AD

the FF is more rigid in the tail section IMO, it will fly cleaner than the NX and just looks cool as hell. I think you wiould be happier with the FF for what you are doing. You Won't be dissapointed at all.

Ok, thanks for the quick reply.

A couple questions I hope you could answer for me. (since it looks like your a sponcer!)

Would a 480 motor work well in it? (E-flite 480 bl) I would be using a 40amp E-flite esc with it.

What battery would you recomend? I have a couple 3 cell, 1320mah packs, but do you think I would benifit from the higher, 2100mah packs? How much noticable weight would that ad?

Is there any-thing I would need to get to complete the air-frame besides some faom-safe ca? (push-rods, etc)

Thanks for the help!

OK, here is a link to 3dxhobbies. buy from there.
http://stores.3dxhobbies.com/-strse-...nes%3AAirfoilz

aside from foam safe ca, I would recomend the WHITE gorrila glue or titebond. you'll need a soldering iron or similar to solder on wheel washers. thats about it.

For Batts, 1320's will get you in the air but flight time will suffer, most I know are running 15-1800 packs for about 12 min flights.

as for motor: I don't know about the e-flight but if it is around a hacker a20-20l it will work great.

Hope this helps let me know if you have any more questions.

Ok, I think I have the building concern out of the way as I can easily obtain all the needed materials.

I used the comparing feature on RCU for three motors, the Hacker, the E-flite 480, and a 450.
Comparing to the hacker (which you said flies good) the 480 seems a little too big. But the 450 seems like it would work nicely.

What do you think?
