Guys,
I have a question. Can a good bit of weight be taken off of these kits? I cant find many threads on building the 35%. Im looking for a good imac plane and was wondering if its worth getting with a da-100l sitting up front and 1 8711 or 7955 on each alerion for weight saving. Thanks Will |

Yep you can get them down to 24 pounds with a DA 100 if your diligent and determined. Let's know what your planning to do and we can throw some ideas your way.

A couple of questions:
1). Is the Carden Edge 540 the best choice for an IMAC plane, compared to the Carden Extra 260 or 330? 2). Is working toward a super light plane as important for IMAC as it would be for 3D? Jim |

Great questions jim. I may can answer the second. I think for imac you want it to be light but not to light so that it doesnt track as well in the wind. 3d you want it super light.
I was wondering the same thing for your first question as well. |

The Edge won't be nearly as competitive in IMAC as an Extra will. Long story short, Edges are 3D airplanes, Caps are precision airplanes. Extras and Yaks tend to be in the middle. Having said all that, edges can be made to IMAC just as Caps can be made to 3D. That all depends on the pilot's skill level. For a given skill level however, an Extra will be much more competitive in the IMAC world than an Edge.

i have a 35% carden extra 330 that i fly in IMAC, flies great. i am running 1 8611 per aileron with no problem. With the old style DA100 on cannisters and my weight is around 29-29.5 lbs. The rudder, fuse sides and motor box were all lightened during the build.

IF you want an IMAC plane do not go with the Edge, other 35% planes will do IMAC/3D combination flying better (Yak, Extra).
Jack01, probably for the first time I respectfully disagree with you that a Cap is the precision plane of choice. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying??? Anyway, if you like the Cap the best for precision so be it, but I will stick with the Yak/Extra offerings for IMAC.

Don't be mis led by peoples personal feelings. What is the most important thing is that you know your airplane. Whether you fly an edge or an extra each has its own habits and you must learn those habits
and how to deal with them. I have Won with both airplanes but like the extra myself. That is not to say that the edge is not a good plane its is a very good plane. Just learn the plane and stick with it and most of all practice, practice, practice. |

I might be able to help you here!?
I have a 35% Carden 260 on a DA100 spinning a 28x10 with one servo per Ail at 10.1kgs(23-24lbs) its flies 3D really well and Pattern is awesome with it!though its lighter it still tracks well and with the power to weight it still does the harder maneuvers really well! here are some links to my vids and build thread! http://www.highalpha.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=808 |

craig,
I love the carden 260 and the dalton 260 so so much. Probably my favorite two planes of all times. How did you get it so light? Seems a tad bit to light for heavy imac. I understand I need to practice practice practice and plan on it as soon as I can get to the field this weekend. Just wondering a good plane for the next season although i havent seen much on the edge the extras and the yaks are dominating |

Jeff, I didn't mean to imply that the Cap is the best precision plane of all time. I was just saying that Caps tend to be more precision oriented whereas some other designs can do both equally well. The Edge is on the other side of that statement. That's also not to say that an Edge can't do precision or a Cap can't do 3D, but they are a little out of their element.
I am with you on the airplane of choice though. That's why I've been flying my 330 for about 5 years.
