For the first time in twenty some odd years of dealing with spray paint, I had a can fail. I won't go in to details, but long story short, it shot paint about six feet and all over my 50cc Yak. Big globs of metallic silver for my boys robot Holloween costume.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Any ideas on what will take it off without hurting the covering?? Thanks in advace Rishelman |

Mineral spirits will take it off and not hurt the Ultracote....BUT, you've got to get it fairly quickly, before the paint cures hard. not sure if will work after that. Good luck

epoxy thinners work. Let it soak a while on a cloth then rub and it will come off

Not specific with helping you with your problem, but what paint were you using? The Ultracoat paint has been out of production for awhile and those cans that are still around are notorious for doing what happened to you. I need to repaint a cowl and have to match Ultracoat fire red and I'[m stuck. Lustrekote for Monokote is great and matches well, but I've found nothing comparable for Ultracoat.

Gun wash (Thinner) will remove it, or even WD40

Acetone should work. Avoid prolonged contact at the edges/seams of the covering.

Just a little builders tip : when I'm spraying the inside of the canopy with spray paint. I dont mask the area off, I just spray the cockpit area and get a little overspray on the covering which is then wiped with a cloth and some WD40. It gives you a nicer line than masking.

Well...THAAAANK YOU!! Mr. Freak. But seriously thanks to all for the suggestions. Last night I tried some good ole' fashion paint thinner, and did a little test spot. It seemed to work good enough taking the paint off, and this morning I checked it and there doesn't seem to be any damage. I don't know about long term drying or getting brittle, but we'll just have to see.
I am curious however, is that KENT ,WA. If so I may pick some of that up. I live on an island so I can't just "go get it". But next time I go to the mainland maybe. thanks again Rishelman |

if you have any monokote trim solvent that sure works great too plus you get to seal your edges at the same time
