got a GMS .47 (stainless muffler), good runner, relitively smooth, loads of power for the model I have - need only 1/4 throttle to get off the ground, lots of wing.....
only problem is the damn thing is making me deaf!!!!!! way too loud, but don't have to worry about sacrificing power as there is lots to spare...... any ideas out there about how to make this screamer pur?????????? |

you might start by determining wheather it's the muffler or the prop making all the noise.
What prop are you using and what RPM's is the engine turning? |

mode1, are all your posts as meaningless and trivial as this one?
Perhaps your remarks have a place on a forum, but I can't imagine that it's this forum..... |

Welcome to FG. I have one of those engines. It's a great, cheap engine that makes a lot of power, mostly because of the noisy, unrestrictive muffler. See if you can find a OS 46FX muffler; it will make it significantly quieter. You will lose some of the top-end power, but as you said, you can do without some of it. Similarly, if you put the GMS muffler on an OS 46 FX or AX, it will make a lot of power but with better midrange than the GMS.

Just take some pics of the internals of the silencer your using and provide the prop size your using. If its a stainless silencer is it standard with the engine? Usually they are aluminum and come with a cone that reduces noise quite a lot. Is that fitted in the silencer?
If the answer is yes then you can purchase an add on silencer adapter that reduces noise output even more. Perhaps the engine maker has this avail on their site. |
