Default Skis for 30% aerobat?

Anyone use skis on their 30%? Do they wreck the flying aerodynamics at that size? Anybody make a good set or have planes for some? I'd love to keep flying my extra once the snow comes.

I'm planning on making a couple sets for myself. One for the Aeroworks 260 50cc, and another one for my old H9 quarter scale Taylorcraft that I've had for years. Should be fun! But the way its been over here, It probably won't even snow. If I slack off on the ski's, You bet it will snow. So...... I'm gonna make them anyway.

LOL, I know what you mean. If I put my ign. batts on charge, out come the rain clouds. Amazing how planes can affect the weather like that.

Just make sure they're not too heavy. But it should be PRETTY AWESOME! Good luck with it! And please post pics if you decide to actually do it!

Will do. As long as they come out weighing like the wheels, should not be a problem.

That's what I was thinking. Lose the wheels and pants and shoot for the same weight. I think I'll start with aluminum since it's the easiest thing for me to shape. Gotta get some sheets first.

if you use aluminum, make sure you let the skis get down to the ambient temp before you put them on the snow. otherwise they will get caked with ice because they will melt the snow they sit on then freeze the water to them.
i think light ply would be a better bet. you can cut a form from a 4x4 and soak the ply then clamp them in the form and wait for them to dry. works very well.

Full scale pilot thinking right there. Before take off, de ice the suckers! I was thinking carbon fiber, but aluminum would be easier and cheaper.

Ahhh, Greetings from the great White North!

As a fellow Canadian aviator, trust me on this one. If you do go with aluminum, all you need is a little silicone spray to keep those babies from stickin' to the white stuff. A little shot before each session works "Beauty, eh"

Yah, our registrations start with either C-F or C-G. This Extra 300L was owned by Fighter Combat which used to be based in St. Catherines Ontario in the summer months and Phoenix AZ in the winter. The aircraft was American registered for a bunch of reasons which make a lot of sense business-wise.
That was a fantastic hour of aerobatic flying that I'll never forget.

If you ever get a chance, look them up. They're extremely professional and can taylor-fit your ride to suit whatever you want to experience.

Cheers

Is there any kinda of magic formula for figuring the best size based on weight? I want to get the smallest footprint without it sinking into the snow constantly.
