Default Composite ARF Gee Bee R2 Build

Well, IMAC season is almost over here in the SE and it is time to start my winter project. Many of you have seen a few of my Dalton Aviation build threads and are probably wondering... what the heck? Yes, it isn't an IMAC plane nor is it wood!

Since I was a kid, I've always loved the Gee Bee's and I even built a HH scratch build that was all but covered, but got destroyed in my move to NC a few years ago. You know how you always have those project planes that you "always wanted to do" or you'll get to "some day"? ... after years of only having pattern or IMAC planes it is finally "some day".

Over the last year or two I have had the great opportunity to get to know Andy Kane from going to a few IMAC events, and large fly-in's. He is always trying to get me to move over to the dark side and go plastic! He always says... are you ready yet? I always say nope... love the Daltons.... and wood. This past Joe Nall, I saw Andy and in usual greeting he says are you ready yet? He started to turn away and I said, YUP! He smiles and says... MX2?... nope, 260?, nope... SuperExtra?... nope... I say GEE BEE. Long story short...a few weeks later, a box that looks like a small refrigerator shows up with my gee bee in it!

The setup isn't all set in stone yet, but I can tell you that I will be running the following:
- DA150 with KS1090 pipes
- JR 922 or 1222 receiver, with the 2700mah nimh powersafe batteries, JR servos (not sure which ones yet)
- Comp arf gee bee landing gear (new style)
- 50 oz tank.

The purpose of this build thread, is to share the build and help those that are looking for some more information on how this thing is to go together. As usual, any questions... please ask, anyone that has experience building the Gee Bee, please speak up and share some of your knowledge. I haven't seen a build thread on any site for this plane yet, so this will be a good resource for those in the future. The gee bee that I will be assembling is the last model... there is a new model that just came out a few months ago with some minor improvements.

COOL. I love GeeBees... and a real R2 at that, not a wussy long-tail version. I need to break out my GP .90 size R2 and fly it again...

Is it done yet?

Can I have it?

I think that pretty much covers the usual questions.

A good buddy gets his this coming week from Andy. I've aquired a Byron R-1 that has one flight on it. I'm gonna go through it and fly it this spring. At least once anyway.

Hey Tony... sorry the day got a bit side tracked. I went to get some pics posted late last night and the camera battery was dead. I'll get some tonight for sure.

If I can get up there, I'll bring it along...

So, ryan... guess you guys are back from the run to IL? the ventura's cool... but nope. GeeBee time amigo.

I really wanted to do the 250 radial, but those things keep getting more and more expensive, besides the 150 on pipes will make it boogie!

Sweet dan... maybe gee bee races after saturday imac.

After working around it a little while... if it flys like poo... then it would make a really great beer cooler.

A wealth of info here;
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10..._1/key_/tm.htm
The guy that wrote the assembly manual for the newer kits blogs there.
I am about a month away from starting work on my CARF Gee Bee,I need to finish the BlazingWings Gee Bee R2 on my bench first.

You drive a hard bargain, Mr. Balazs. My final offer, a kidney and my wife. I would have offered my liver, but I'm pretty sure it's got cirrhosis. And Morgan gets along well with Christy and can do wifely duties around the house and only irritates me. It's a pretty lucrative offer, I tell you.
