Dang you sucked me into this one. Sub'd!

My vote is for the weathering, it adds character.

I have decided to weather the plane. I just don't know to what amount yet. I will prime it with silver primer of prime it and then put a coat of silver paint on so when scuffing it up it will appear to be bare aluminum. I have to figure out the rust part yet. My parts were delayed in shipment until today so now it will be next week before the build starts again. It will most likely start with the making of the cowl. I ordered 4 F-1 firewalls so I could make a wedding cake plug and then use florist foam for the nose ring. I will detail it step by step. This is my first attempt at a cowl. I've made many other fiberglass parts for my Corsairs in the past but never this size project. I do have a builder that has offered to do it if I fail. Here is the latest picture of a fellow builders plug for his 50% enlarged 120" Hellcat.

I got my finished wing joiners back from my friend that was making them at his CNC shop. This is the method I will be using to lock the outer panels to the center section. There will be 4 joiners and then dowels with angled blocks for bolting the wing tightly together. The joiner spars will also have bolts that tighten up against them in the box channels "Receivers". These are accessed thru the wheel bays. Here are some pictures of my method. I still need 2 more receivers for the TE spar.

They are filled with steel shot for shotgun shells. They weigh about 5 to 7 lbs. each. Be sure the socks don't have any holes or you will have a mess. Also make sure you wash your socks before you use them or if a friend comes over he or she might be offended.

I posted a couple pic's of my Seirra TW retract so I thought I'd post some of the mains and the scale wheels I got from Seirra. The struts are 11 3/4" long to the center of the axle and the wheels are 7 1/2" in diameter which make the total height from the ground to the bottom of the wing's full section 15 1/2". The 4 blade prop will be 32" in diameter so it will give me plenty of clearence.

I notice that my CompARF F4U 7" wheels from Seirra are different than your wheels

Obviously Darrell changed the design or got them from a different distibutor. Yours look great. Maybe the size is why? I forgot to look for the valve stem. Is it on the inside of the wheel?

Barry,
No valve stems on my wheels.
Is the valve stem functional on your wheels?
