Looks real good. Now I know why you don't want to go flying with me. I thought the cold was too much for you brits. I don't want to move in on you thread but I will for a minute, my 43% Carden was delivered today and I am working feverishly to get it ready to fly by next week. Built by Brian Hueffmeier, DA 170, Power Box Spektrum, 8711's all around, Mej 29-12N with KS 95 cans. We should maiden the 2 planes next week together.

Tony - twin maiden sounds good. Although you don't want your 43% plane only powered by a 170 on cans to look underpowered next to my 39% on pipes

Just for the hell of it (and because I finally cleaned up the toy room) I stuck the Sukhoi and my 40% compy 260 next to each other. The Sukhoi makes the 260 look pretty small. It's clearly a fair bit longer (rudders are level in the photo) and the fus is deeper. It sits higher mainly because the gear is longer though. A few pics.

Ha ha. Remember my 170 is a DA. I need to put my 40% and 43% next to each other as well - the new one if a bit larger.

Andrew,

The plane looks great, when you are ready to get vinyl for it the guy you want to talk to is Al Mostek, he does all the stuff on my planes and does awsome work.

Here is his e mail address: preventerwind@msn.com

I will be contacting him about doing my Extra as soon as I get home.

Lol Frank - but instead of making filthy swordfighting comments, go and get your arse down the shops and buy some 8711HV servos so I have someone to bail me out with a spare when I wreck one again

Took the plane round to a friends place today and ran the engine up and checked everything out. All was good except the canopy doesn't seem that sturdy. It's retained by two lugs at the rear and dowls at the front. It rattled around a fair bit and I don't trust the glue holding the rear lugs. So I pinned the rear lugs with carbon rod and fixed up with BVM Vpoxy. I used some carbon box section to stiffen up the whole structre.

Busy tomorrow but the weather looks good for Monday so I should be good for the maiden.

Had to go to Princeton yesterday to see a man about a dog so didn't have time to fly BUT I got out today.

WOW! Well happy. Put 6 flights on the plane today and worked through a bit of mixing and got things set up how I like them.

I'm no IMAC genius but I flew some nice sequences (even felt better than the 260) and really felt the benefit of the huge power this thing is kicking out The 3w 170CS on K&S 1090 pipes throws this thing around like a ragdoll.

I'm pretty nose heavy right now and suspect it will be even better in the sequence once I find the right spot. To be honest I didn't play with the CG at all, just getting throws etc right.

My goal is to have a plane that will fly the sequence great, then fire into high rates and have an awesome freestyle plane. Because the surfaces and throws are huge, even with the way forward CG, I still got some good 3d in. There was a bit of wind and rolling harrier decents were almost vertical, rolling harrier loops unbelivably tight and transitions easy to keep tight. Pull the CG back and it'll be a monster for this stuff! The transition on the engine isn't quite right yet but I'm very close.

I had a little flutter on the elevators (I think!) and also could use a little tail weight, so I think I'll end up going to 2 8911HV's per stab. The control surface is huge, and I'm not lacking torque but I can just see what looks like occasional movement. I think I may also weight the counterbalances to balance the surface.

All in all - VERY HAPPY Can't wait to go flying again on Wednesday. Might get some video if Tony brings his camera out
