After reading the thread about the mx2 foamy i was thinking is there any interest of indoor flying here in VA. or surrounding states? it seems as though all the large indoor events are in OH or IN which is a little far for me but i would not hesitate to drive 3 or 4 hours to fly. i do not know of anyplace as of yet but im sure members here can chime in on possible venues and or events that could get us through the winter. thanks, jeff

If there was an indoor event in NC or VA, I would do my best to attend.

I would like it too. If there is enough interest, I will try to get place, like U-hall or John Paul Jones arena in Charlottesville, Va.

I will do some checking tomorrow and see what I can find out. This sounds like something that should have been in the wroks for a couple months, it might be almost too late for this year, but we can try. I am a CD and can turn in all the parperwork, but I do not know how to get the word out to get all the big-wig hotdogers out, can you guys help me out?

thanks cliff, those would be awesome places. the etoc and some other events look like there in a regular sized gym, woodbutcher said hanover high school has a large gym and that this idea was brought up a few years ago and cost was the biggest hurdle. too bad the wind tunnel in va is being decomissioned, that looked like it had a lot of space.

I read on here that there may be a electric fly in inside the tunnel before they tear it down. If I hear anything else I will let everyone know. |

There's a group of guys that get together every first Friday of the month and fly at a local gym in Danville, VA. They meet for pizza at 5, then go fly until 2-3am.
This Friday is the first of the month; and Saturday is the flight for fighting cancer (sorry, I forget the real name) fly-in event at the Danville airport. I'm headed down - can't wait! Indoor and outdoor both! Pete

O.K. folks I have found out some info. We can get U-Hall. It is $2500.00 a day to use. I know that sounds like a big number, but if we had 100 pilots and charged them $25.00 to fly we completelty break even. I will try to get in touch with some pilots and vendors, I need to get a general idea of the possibly number of attendees and how many days we would like to try to do this. U-Hall is a HUGE place, right in the middle of Charlottesville. There are more resturaunts and hotels within a 2-3 mile radius than you can imagine. I would like to see this turn into a huge event, but again, I need help from people. Is this something you guys want me to continue to pursue??

thanks for doing the ground work cliff, maybe with some sponsors interest and a good turnout that could work. ive never been to an indoor event but u-hall looks better then what i see on the vids. now we just need a couple places to practice, i like the idea of late night flying in a gym.
