Default Mounting a rear carb DLE 55cc engine

I am new to big airplanes and gas engines. I have a DLE 55cc engine and the carb is very close to the firewall and don't know if I should cut a hole in the firewall or not? I would think the manufacture has given plenty of standoff for airflow into the carb without the firewall being cut, but don't have any experience to know. What is your experience with the rear mounted carb of a DLE 55cc engine?

If you use stand offs that are any shorter than the supplied ones included with the DLE55 you should cut a hole for the carb to breath. The standard stand offs that come with the engine provide the minimum clearance for the carb.

Hole cutting is ok to do. If this is the only hole you will need to put a secondary wall made from balsa across F1 otherwise intake air will blow out the fuse covering or canopy

How did you guys with your DLE 55cc hook up the throttle and choke? Like you said, the carb is very close to the firewall...i barely have enough clearance for my throttle hook up, but the choke arm is WAY to close. Can you guys send me pictures of what you did so i can maybe get some ideas? please and thank you!

Here's one I just put onto an Aeroworks Edge 540, doesn't really matter what plane it is though, I do them all pretty much the same.

Be careful listening to Jody. You might end up having a great engine, flying all the time, and having fun. It happened to me. Watch out!

* Did any of you drill a 1 inch hole in the firewall behind the carb? (i see the picture has it in drill in there) Was it really nessary? what if you don't drill it? Lack of performance?
* Also what type of spark plugs are you guys using with your DLE 55's? (hopefully a resistor plug) There was NO marking on my plug when i got my engine.

1. you should drill a hole there to get more air in smoother.

2. now this is very important!!! listen to me good here.
DO NOT USE THE PLUG THAT IT CAME WITH!!! get a "ngk cm-6"
you could order one from south east rc engines or most good small engine shops around you will have them. just give them a call.

good luck bud,
lou

No one makes a CM6 style resister plug, Your ignition has a sheilded plug cap and a resister in the cap.

* I already know about NOT to use that plug. But could i use it for break in on the ground at least? And i will get a NGK CM6 plug. And so i don't need a resistor plug then?
* So you're saying that my cap has a resistor built in already. Is there anyway to confirm this?

You can believe it, it's fact. Use the provided plug anytime time things are going a little to good and you need a bit of frustration, if you want to start off that way, that's your call.
