Jim,

Glad I'm not the only Heli guy that has gone Gas planks... I have an GP Extra 300S and a very old TT Giles 202.

the Extra has a 50cc and the Giles has a 26cc. I have a few Nitro planes but the power gas has is just to good....

The plan is to cut my teeth with these two and then move up to a 35%.

have fun see you at the field.

BTW I have a fully loaded TREX600N i want to get rid of or trade so if anyone in SoCal wants to make a deal let me know..

Gene

my 3W is almost broken in and running smooth as silk. it starts with ease and idles nice and slow . got 2 1/2 gallons of 32:1 premix and now will be using C-10 with redline 40:1. been using Benz 22/10 ,didnt like it, swithced to a Xoar 22/8 and it was good, hanging at less than 50% , getting a 23/8 for next outing. the Yak is fun and nice to look at , been doing everything to rattle this airframe but its solid. got the CF gear and tubes in for a weight savings of 7.5 ozs...... cool...... .. thanks Ace Hobby and Thunder Tiger .

I was told not run anything other than 87 octane through the gas engines. They run at optimal performance with 87, switching to a higher octane will actually make them detonate do to the low compression ratio of the engine. This info was passed to me from a extremely smart engine guy here in town. He mods the car/truck/boat nitro engines as well as the 2 stroke gas boat race engines. Just my 2cents, take it or leave it.
Heres his site if you are interested http://www.abmods.com/

that might be true for a DA or your DL but this 3W does have 11;1 and the manual clearly states running 98 octane. break-in was done with 92 so the few bumps in octane will only enhance this engines performance. that 87 gas your burning is very good for low compression engines .

3W 55i / 3W 55i CS Engine Manual

Engine Break In
• Use a 2-stroke petroleum based oil (preferably ashless) as this type of oil has a good
honing effect which helps to break in the engine
• Use a mixture of 32-1 or even 30-1
• Use this fuel mixture for approximately 2-3 hours of run time
• Use a high Octane unleaded fuel (98 Octane is ideal)

After Initial Break In
• Use high grade fully synthetic 2-stroke oil
• Use the oil manufacturer's recommended gas to oil mixture
• Use a high Octane unleaded fuel (98 Octane is recommended)
• We use 3W 2-stroke oil in our engines here in Germany, but there are other high grade
2-stroke oils that will perform well. The list below shows some 2-stroke oils that our customers
from abroad have used with success.
Pennzoil at 50-1
Redline at 40-1
Amsoil DOMINATOR Racing Oil at 50-1
Amsoil Saber 100:1 Pre-Mix Oil at 100-1

Cant be wrong if its recommended in the manual. More compression = more PAR!!! What is the price of the 3W55i?

3W55i and 3W55xi are about the same price if not the exact same price ($650ish). The CS version of the i adds $200 to the price so I would imagine the CSxi is also around $200 more.
