Could use some help picking servos please

Hey guys, in the near future, I plan to buy the TOC 35% Yak. It has a 107" span, and will weigh 28-30lbs. I will mainly use it for 3D, and some IMAC type flying. I want to have good performing, dependable servos, but am having a hard time swallowing the cost of 8 8611's @ $125 each. I'm not saying that they aren't worth it, because they may very well be, and don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to just go the cheapest route possible, just looking for a happy medium. I'm new to giant scale, but have been flying glow stuff for 20+ years. I'm just trying to find out what features that I REALLY need in a servo for this type of application, and what is more or less hype. If it helps any, I will be using two in each wing, one in each stab, and I will likely use a SWB servo tray and do a pull-pull setup for the rudder. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

I've done two of those with 5955's/7955's and NEVER had a problem with them.

Yeah, if you want a decent price and a reliable servo go with the Hitec.

Check around, you used to be able to get 4 packs on the JR's from Chief for less. I had the LHS order me in some 8611 a year or so ago when they were on blowout sale and they were not that much more than the Hitec's . I have both hitec and jr servos. To be honest with you, none of them are worth what they charge for them, but the jr's are better IMHO.

the 9156 is what I currently use... fine servo!!! The 9157 is s'posed to be even more capable....
I have 3 year old FUTABA S9152's with prolly 600 plus flights, in their third airframe, and still running tight and slop free!!!

IMHO, the S9152 is the best servo around with the exception it is rated at about 290 oz*in at 6 volts.... (The others are 300+ and 400 oz*in)...but it comes with heavy (Really Heavy Duty) duty arms... so you save $10.00 there not having to buy servo arms.... and they have an extremely robust gear train... better and tighter then any of the other similar size/weight/torque servos!!!

and on a budget, I have used the HOBBICO CS170 with good results.....

Remember that Tower CS-180's are rebadged HiTech 5955's......same servo at much less cost. They may even be 7955's now.

Hitec 7955 are great servos, but if you want the best, you cant go past futaba 9156/9157

Try Troy Built Models for Hitec servo prices as low as can be plus some very economical alternatives.
