Thanks Walt your build threads have really been a big help. I hope to get some more work done today but I have some stuff I have to do for work and family. Maybe I wont be able to get back to it tomorrow, I got a late start today.
Walt a question for ya' What glue choice do you make for the motor box. I was thinking of using 3M scotch weld as opposed to traditional 30 min epoxy. Available at Aerographix : http://www.aerographix.biz/3m_epoxy.htm |

Good Job Dan.
![]() You mentioned something On weight. When I seen the weight of the first 2 pcs, side of motor box I started with you. Look how close them first 2 weights where. Something we will talk about next time. Get the box glued up if you need help call with the clamps you have and mine you have enough. Now I will bring My Craftsman Belt, disk sander over. I can't be much nicer my man. We will get through the box and start the fuse sides. The only reason I say that as I will need tools later. And you are short on tables to do both skins and fuse sides as I have 3- 1/2 tables here beside the tool table bench. Hope that will work for you. I hope that your a good way in the build by black Friday. LOLEasy isn't it..... Nice Dan. Rich Yes Walt the shop is a mess and looks like I have a couple extra tanks sitting back there on the shelf. |

beautiful!! Dan, the box looks great! Rich, you are an awesome dude for helping Dan, i know he appriciates the help. Hey Rich, by the way, sorry i havent called you back, you know me! hehe
you have motor box parts that will fit my carden? that is frickin sweet! let me know what I owe you for the wood and for your time. i also need a new firewall, as Cohen still has the original firewall from my plane. do you have the thick ply for that too? and the other big thing i need is the hardwood rails that the landing gear bolts too. what kind of wood is that? |

Okay Here is how to get the table ready for building the Fuse sides. I am following along with how Walt does it. For us newbes here is a step by step with some of my own twists.
Materials Needed 3M painters tape ( can be put on plans if removed correctly wont tear plans when it is removed) 12 inch wide wax paper your plans two 6 foot sections of angle aluminum ( at Lowes 12 bucks each ) 12 wood screws 6 per aluminum strip spaced out at 1 foot intervals Heres what you do. 1. Cut your plans in half 2. Tape them down to the table ( I use a drywall topper over a birch bench top) Pull snug to take out any slack or wrinkles. 2.5 Tape wax paper over plans pull snug 3. Mark the locations for the 6 drill holes in each aluminum piece 4. Drill the holes slightly larger than the diameter of the screw shaft ( will allow some fine tuning at end ) 5. Line up 1 end of angle Iron with plan fuse rail, check position with a fuse rail to ensure it is just on the black line 6. Mark and pre-drill hole then place first screw in this hole to loosely anchor the end 7. Repeat procedure with other end now snug down both ends ensuring they are lined up 8. Drill and secure middle of rail keeping it lined up, continually check with a piece of fuse rail stock 9. Repeat with last 2 holes, check final alignment and secure all screws 10. Repeat with other side |

Very good Manual you have Walt.
![]() Good job Dan.![]() That's how it's done and if you have 2 planes your in like the factory. 2nd thought, Don't move that setup Dan I have 2 planes to do sides for. LMBO since you got the table set up. Jigs Make things Easy, The rest is up to you. Rails look pretty square to the table Dan? Hoping you let me stop in tonight? I just want to try out one of them cold ones like on the table....Rich. Last edited by RICH M; 11-17-2009 at 09:48 AM. |

Here are some more pics. I got the 45 degree joints cut in the fuse rails. I have the rest mocked up and I will finish gluing the fuse side tomorrow.

Hey guys I am in a bit of a pickle. I framed up and glued the fuse according to the plans EVERYTHING it 90 degrees straight and in the correct position. My problem is the hard points for the wing bolts. If you look at walts picture you see the hard blocks fits perfectly between the two vertical formers. Look at my pic I cant find a block in my kit to fit this area. I took a pic with the closest one I could find. The vertical formers are in the correct place and 90 degrees so I am a bit confused. Got any ideas ?????
Thanks Pic on right side of screen is Walts ( same plane same plans ) |

Mine was the same way as also others I have seen. I believe Walt makes new blocks ( not speaking for him ). You should be able to adjust the vertical beams closer together, just make shure the #2 former will still line up with a vertical on the truss.

No worries, the square hardpoints are not suppose to fit sug between the 3/8 balsa. After sheeting the sides, the squares glue onto the inside of the 1/8 balsa side sheeting, it is then re-enfoce by a 1/8 hard ply rectangle, about 1x2 inch that glues over the square and across the two 3/8 balsa.

Looking at the vertical plan it does show that the hard point is not touching the former. I wonder why, it would seem like you would want that support for the wing
