i know I am opening a can of worms but would appreciate your collective thoughts. I have a DA-50R that I have ran 35 gallon thru and I love the engine. Iam starting a new project and have been considering the DL-55 and cost is not a issue in my decision. I would appreciate hearing from those of you who have both of these engines and your feeling about operation and AFTER MARKET service of the DL.
Thanks

You'll be fine with either engine. If you go with the DLE buy it from a reputible dealer like Valley View, Wildhare or Southeast rc.

I would also consider the BME 58 Extreme if cost is not an issue.

For weight, power, ease of tuning, and longevity go with the BME 58. For longevity and good power go with the DA. For ease of tuning and good power go with the DL.
Of course price has merit in the final decision. If it didn't everyone would have a BME, DA, or 3w. No, I didn't forget ZDZ and MVVS. |

im sure you will be happy with either engine. but if you go dle 55 get it from a reputable US dealer like valley view. i have 11gal in mine so far and very pleased. never a deadstick or anything. the only issue i had was a flaking reed which i caught from my winter maint inspection, which is really rare for any motor but valley view sent me a new set under warranty.

Does the DL 55 make significantly more power than the DA 50?

I am asking about possible warranty repaire etc. I have never been charged a dime from DA for any service.

As long as you buy from an authorized dealer such as Valley View RC, Wildhare, Southeast RC or Fox Engines you will recieve the finest customer service there is. Yes, as good as DA or better. If you buy from China or E-bay or some crap like that then good luck. In my experience the DL 55 makes a little more power than the DA and has a cleaner mid-range.But I beleive the DA will outlast it, given similar care and maintenence. Having said that I've also seen a few have bearing problems on the DLE's but I believe that has been resolved. Any repairs have been turned around very quickly and with no charge for warranty items. Even if non-warrenty work is required such as crash damage repair, prices are very reasonable and I believe they only charge for parts and not labor but I'm not 100% on that. My buddy had his lose a bearing a few days befor a contest and Jody from VVRC was able to repair it next day and even brought it to the field on a Sunday for him. Customer service doesn't get any better than that.

Like Yakpilot said, buy from a reputable dealer and you will get great service if needed.
As far as power there pretty close.
