Need help!!!! Hey guys I've burned out 6 throttle servos this year and it's driving me nuts.today my plane went full throttle and headed for the pits good thing for ing kill. I'm running a sf power expander with two 2300 a123's. There is no binding.I do alot of 3d could this be the issue? I continually throttle the plane up,down,up,down.......I've tried hitecs,Futaba,And airtronics with no luck they've all burned out. Some were digital and some were anilog.HELP!!!!

what servo's have you tried. i've burned up a hitec 5245 digi mini pretty quick. then i found out they don't hold up well to gas motors. i have been using a 5625 and so far so good. what is you set up. i believe that you need to use atleast a plastic arm on the servo to help out with vibration.

Yea Scott----I burned out 2 this season. They were both Hitec 225BB analogs rated at 6V. I also run A123 un-regulated batteries. I can't prove it but me thinks that the 7.2 (or better) Volts fresh off the charger has some affect. Both servo's lasted about 15 or 20 flights, then quit. I switched to a Futaba digital for both airplanes and have 25 flights on one and 40 flights on the other with no problems.

What is your failsafe set at? I smoked one because it was bound slightly beyond the carbs travel. When I would turn on the plane it would run to the extreme travel. I stripped one w/plastic gears, then burned one up with metal gears. The higer voltage from A123 setup can cause problems if your linkage run out of travel before the servo does.

If you have the throttle return spring still on the throttle arm, that will create unnecessary load on your throttle servo......
End points not set properly, aka binding....... No matter what servo he is using, they shouldn't be burning out..........

I killed a 5645 Hitec on throttle before. I felt it was a good servo. It lasted for over a year with a bunch of flights. It went out at the field and a helpful pilot gave me their spare 56455 so I used it. My new bird has an 8611a. Have not used it but I'm sure it will be fine.

I've been using JR 4721's on my throttles for years and have never had a problem. All gassers. Expensive but effective, fast, and accurate.
Now, how are you setting up your servos and linkage? |

I have been using JR DS-368 miniture servos for years without any issues. Are you running the spring hooked up on the throttle linkage?

I also had this problem and thought it was throttle servos. Turned out that I had a head bolt lose and the air fuel charge escaping after a hot run would make my engine go to full throttle right after landing and ready to taxi in. Nothing to do with throttle setting at all. Just something to check. My engine is a 3W 150. Runs great now.

First - Is the throtlle arm on th ethrottle itself removed.
Do this! it will kill the servo in short order. Second - DO NOT SKIMP on the throttle servo - period. It is probably the most important servo on the plane. I learned this lesson the hard way. Ronster |

Scott I've been using 5625's on all my throttles with no issues.
I also sold Ricky Bobby a 5625 for his throttle on his Yak earlier this season and I don't think he had any issues since.
