Default Restoring a 3DHS 87" SHP

Well, I might be crazy but I always loves this 3DHS 87" SHP airframe and I was able to put my hands in one, but needing fixing. For those that know me I like things well assembled and if possible better than new, so there's major intervention needed on this model as well.

You can find this amazing model created by 3DHS and Scott Stoops (great guy and great pilot) at http://www.3dhobbyshop.com/detail.aspx?ID=2280

We have holes on the wings, not just converging issues but broken wood, nothing major like ribs or spars. We do have a dent on the leading edge but it will be fixable too.

The fuse needs a major overhaul... The landing gear area needs to be re-engineered. Covering will be done in a lot of areas mainly on the bottom of the fuse.

This aircraft was running on gas, then electric and now I'm planning on going back to gas.

My major issue so far is some hinges slightly loose. 1mm play... I do want to make sure I won't have problems in flight so I'll have to come up with something to solve this problem. Still studying that approach... ideas welcome

I'll start posting pics of progress, ideas and comments. Please let us keep this post without any personal offenses to airplane brands or people.

First picture shows two color versions and my buddy Cory holding them. He owns the white version and my version is the red one (not that one). Next pictures showing the bottom are after I cut and removes covering off. I wanted to take a look and be able to work in it as needed.

Thank you for looking and for your support.

Hey Antonio......Looks like a good project for the winter months. I'll be happy to take a look at the fuse damage so that parts can be made. From the pics the damage doesn't look too bad but......

Let me know

Update...

Holes on the wings got covered with new wood and now just missing sanding and covering on the bottom. On the top I removed traces of old covering that was ripping of and one of the wings till needing leading edge work. To come...

I'll send new pics on the fuse update later.

Ed, thank you so much but Norman is already working on that. If I end up needing any help you'll be the man. Thanks

I hope you get your SHP back together soon. This is one of my favorite 50cc airframe.

Looks good Antonio - glad to see this thing getting the TLC that it needs, it went to a good home! Sure enough, as soon as I walked back inside after you left I found 2 wing bolts. I'll get them to you soon.

Oh, you know, bought it flew the heck out of it, ripped the gear off a few times, hit a fence or two and then decided it was time for a 100cc so I sold it to someone who could actually restore it to it's former glory and get a whole 'nother life out of it. Win/Win for everyone, I think!

Yeah, win/win... however I'm not sure I'll let you fly it again after restored

Just kidding... Ah, ah, ah...

Aren't you coming for the electric fly-in next weekend, if the weather allows?? If so, please bring me those wing screws and if you remember that broken model. Let me know if you want me to pick it up because I'll be in Boulder next Wednesday afternoon. I'll fix it and then help people with the buddy box for 3D begginers.

Thanks Ryan

Glad to see that it went to a good home. Ryan, I think, fully intended to kill it off eventually
