Default Canopy delaminating from wood frame

Hi guys, I have just noticed certain portions of my QQ Yak 105" canopy delaminating from the tri-stock wood frame. Some parts of the canopy have developed cracks as well. What is the best type of adhesive to use to re-attach the delaminated portions? Thanks!

Uhh,, RC56 canopy glue? Kinda like white glue but dries clear and is flexible. Good stuff.

I have tried canopy glue between two non-porous surfaces e.g. canopy to covering and it works fine. Not sure if it will work well with wood and also withstand all the vibration.

The extreme flight yaks (early ones) had a problem with blowing off the canopy. Chris recommended laying a bead of RC 56 all the way around the inside of the canopy. Several hundred flights later (and now sold to another) it has been perfect.

The fix on the 120" in yak is two lay a 1.5 inch wide strips of 3/4 oz glass and epoxy on the inside of the canopy to help bond the frame and plastic canopy together. (These strips will run the entire length of the canopy on both sides) I have a lot of experience with the QQ canopy problem and since I have done this I have not had a problem since. Part of the problem is the plastic that QQ used was to thin and brittle for the application. I have since got my hands on a new canopy and will apply all that I learned to the new one and have a crack free canopy for once. YEAH!!!

mbacosa, could you post some pics of your fiberglass cloth reinforcement? Where did you buy your new canopy from?

I'll try to get some pics tonight and post them. As far as the replacement canopy I ran across someone who had purchased an extra to repair his Yak and then destroyed the Yak a short time there after and still had the canopy left over. It was a Leseberg edition so the only thing I need to do is paint to the correct color. No problem there. It was brand new and never mounted or touched. I got pretty lucky I guess for $50.00. I thought Octanehuffer had an unpainted one for sale on the swapshop for like $100.00 plus shipping. If you need one, you might want to check that out. I thought about buying it because it was clear and not frosted like the two that I have. I believe Chief is plum out of canopies and cowls. So its time to get creative to get spare parts. I checked with Fiberglass Specialties and they advised me that they do not make the cowls for the QQ yaks and have no plans to do so. Thats a bummer!!

Thanks mbacosa, my best bet would be to reinforce the canopy since the delamination and cracks are still at an early stage. I would say that it is still possible to arrest them with the fiberglass reinforcement

I epoxied some small tri-stock along the inside edges to give the thin canopy more side support. So far so good at stopping any more damage.

I should be able to get some pictures posted tonight the camera was dead last night. Go figure. I had the same cracking problem (large cracks) I had to stop drill the cracks and use clear packing tap to support them. The fiberglass on the edges as since stopped any new cracks from forming or existing cracks from getting worse.
