Hello everyone,
I am working on my next design, a 1/8th scale Hawker Typhoon. I finished the CAD design a few weeks ago and have sent the plugs for the plastic parts to be fabricated. The specs are: - 62.5" wingspan - Electric or Glow power - Estimated AUW between 6 & 7 lbs - Retract or fixed gear - Functional Lighting system optional - Full house control w/optional flaps - Clear plastic canopy - Clear plastic cowl and oil cooler - Custom spinner Meanwhile I can start the build for the parts that do not depend on the plastics. This plane came in many different color schemes. I have not decided which one I will go for, but being in FL, I prefer the lighter colors due to the heat we have here in summer. Fahim |

Ah!! the Typhoon is my favorite warbird !! I've had the KMP Typhoon, and now working on a Vailly Typhoon 96"span.
Out of the ones your showing I like the top left Sand Camo the best.. Your going to need to use the option retracts, the flaps and the lights !! ![]() Keep us informed on the build!!

Great minds think alike. The two schemes you mentioned are the ones I am leaning towards. Both are light colors and both should look good on the ground and in flight.
Here is a picture of how it comes out of the box. The kit includes a complete set of plastics - the cowl and oil cooler, the canopy, scale spinner, and liners for the retract wheel wells. But I don't have the plastics back yet, so can't post a picture of that for now. Getting the scale outlines of this plane took some doing. After the 4th prototytpe of the fuselage, and 2nd for the wing, I finally got it right. I plan on doing the whole kit n kaboodle. Retracts, lights, panel lines, weathering, etc. The construction method is relatively simpler than a balsa frame kit, and I will be using our miracle Liquid Sheet for covering it. The kit is set up for glow or electric, I will be doing the electric version. Fahim |

Got me interested for sure now! What retracts, kind, air, electric?
![]() Are you going to be able to keep the scale outline with the short nose and hopefully we won't have to put 5 lbs of additional weight up there ? One of the big problems with this Warbird, but I love the lines of it.. The only other thing is make sure the landing gear area is tough try not to skimp in this area if you can ... Thanks, Frank

Here is a link to the retract system I plan on using. http://www.wowplanes.com/product_inf...b8acd3ef25299e I was able to keep the fuselage scale outlines very accurately. The wing has an anhedral and a dihedral and I was able to capture that too with accuracy. The tail feathers will be airfoil shapes, so that should look more scale than most. The plane has a short nose and balancing was something I considered. The tail has been kept as light as possible and I plan on locating the battery and servos as far forward as possible. Let see how that turns out. I will keep your point in view about the landing gear area. Thanks. Fahim |

I do not have the plastic parts back from my supplier yet, but I can start on the parts of the plane that do not depend on that - the wing and tail. Hopefully by the time I get to the fuselage, they will be here.
I started this build about a week ago on another forum, so I will be in a catch up mode here for the first few posts. First the wing. The wing is made up from 5 panels as shown in the picture above. We will start prepping the two outer panels first. Here are a series of pictures showing the construction sequence. The text within the pictures explains what I am doing in each. The Typhoon wing has an anhedral on the top surface of the wing and a level bottom surface up to the landing gear. Then both surfaces dihedral up at 5 degrees. This is an important scale feature of this plane that has been captured accurately in this model. Fahim

If you need weight upfront after the battery and servos are placed as far forward as possible, try and fabricate the air intake under the nose from a heavier metal or a lead liner, may help. Looking great so far!!!!!!

I got the ailerons trimmed and fitted. They will be installed after the finishing stage so I put them aside.
Next I worked on the lighting system. The plane will have red & green nav lights on the wing tips and functional landing lights that will go on and off in synch with the retracts. I have not been able to find info on where the fuselage lights are located, if any. Can someone here help me find that info. Fahim

Next it was time to glue the complete wing together. Here is the build sequence.
The wing is done for now and we can put it aside.

I made some more progress today. Located the tail servos, squared and mounted the wing and the H. Stab.
