Default Who’s flying IMAC with an electric?

I’m interested in setting up a hanger 9 35% extra 260 electric powered. Is anyone is doing the same? If so what is your setup, Watts and discharge of your lipos?

One problem I can see having in a IMAC contest is having a big enough battery to complete both sequences within a round.

I know oa a few folks that have used electric in the lower classes and only about one in the upper classes..

you hit on the issue.. flight time..
there is PLENTY of power in a good electric set up...
but it is very hard if not impossible (for now) to get the flight time needed to fly 2 sequences..... and have enough of a safety margin left over.

Why is it in IMAC we fly two sequences within a round?

Saves a lot of time getting all the sequences in during a contest. With the number of pilots we get out here, it would be almost impossible to get it done any other way.

dont forget you may be in a holding pattern waiting for your time to start. i have waited several minutes waiting. i have a good friend that flew sportsman last year and was stuck in a holding pattern for a while. when he landed only had vapors in the tank. very lucky.

Kyle Goodwine, Matt Szueber, and Jeff Szueber each have (or had before the had a mid air with two of them) Electric powered Hanger 9 260's. In EMAC Kyle flew in Intermediate, and both the Szuebers flew in Advanced. They were using Hacker power packages, the Szueber brothers are sponsored by Hacker. I think I remember that the planes were able to fly two sequences. You may want to contact Hacker and ask them the details of the setups. They have experience with this plane.

At contests I have seen allowances made for electrics that cannot do two sequences on one set of batteries. They will let you go first, fly one sequence, land change batteries, and then go last to fly the second sequence. Nothing in the rules against this. It's all up to the CD.

Here is a link to pictures and some info on their planes:
http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...ic-set-up.html

Here is a YouTube link to Jeff Szueber Flying a freestyle with his electric powered H9 260 at the Bakersfield IMAC. You will see how much power this plane has, and what an awesome pilot Jeff is.

Hope this helps!

it shouldnt be allowed. fly 2 times just like everyone else, no exceptions. or let everyone take a break in between

a buddy of mnie here jsut finished putting one together. he still needs to fly it though.

im sure there should be enough battery. the same guy had a 33% sukhoi electric and didnt realy have a problem flying through the sportsman sequence.

you could always fly a sequence land then change batteries then take off again . may take a little time. but you have to do what you have to do.
