Default Indoor Flying at Neville Island Golf Dome

Starting Saturday Nov. 14, Luke's RC Planes (Brookfield, OH) will be sponsoring indoor flying at the Neville Island Golf Dome north of Pittsburgh. Flying will be from 6:45PM-9:45PM. The cost is $20. Both airplanes and helis are permitted to fly yet a 14oz. weight limit (with battery) will be enforced. Helis such as T-Rex 250's, Blade cX/mcx/msr's will be permitted. For those of you who went to the JR Festival, the size of the dome and the flightline are almost identical. So far, they have given us 4 dates, but we may be able to get more depending on the turnout.

Our first session went great. We got about 25 pilots and dates scheduled for January and February. We are also working on getting the dome sanctioned as a club so that it is covered by the AMA. You do not need to be a member of the club to fly there, but membership is free.

We had another decent turnout this weekend. Somewhere around 20 pilots which isnt too bad because there was another indoor flying session going on nearby which is where most of the heli guys went. We were able to start a couple minutes early so make sure you get there a little before 6:45 if you plan on going to the next one.

It looks like flying at the Neville Island dome is done for the season. Even though we were typically pulling in around $350 per night, the people who run the dome want $330 per hour! So I guess they were hoping that we would bring in close to $1000 for 3 hours of flying which is what the softball and soccer guys are paying. They may be able to get us dates in March or April when demand for rent is down, but everyone will probably want to flying outside by then. It does look like we will have a few other places to fly in the area though. Luke and Sue just started up their Sunday morning sessions at Farmer Jim's which is an indoor soccer facility near their store in Brookfield, OH. Its pretty nice because they usually have two separate fields, one for racetrack pattern and one for 3D. I also heard about a gym in Saltsburg, PA sponsored by Tailspin Hobbies that will hold sessions every other Friday night.
The dates for Farmer Jim's indoor are on www.lukesrcplanes.com

Yep, got the e-mail, that sucks. for us it's an hour drive if the weather is good to the dome. we all agreed that last sat. was a bad idea to try and venture out. it sucks to loose such a great venue but there is no way we could bring in the $990 they want. I don't think you will see many from our group heading out to ohio to fly as that is a 2 1/2 hour drive. It looks like club ICR and saltsburg are where we will head from here.

Yeah Saltsburg looks to be about an hour drive for me so I think I'll be able to go to that one. The one at Farmer Jim's is only an hour for me so I'll probably go to that one too but I know how long of a drive it is for you guys in Latrobe. Last year at Farmer Jim's, we attempted to set a Guiness World Record for most aircraft flying indoors at once. I think we had somewhere around 30-40 helis and airplanes in the air under one roof for a full minute.
Camp Ronnie is pretty close for me and you guys too. The only thing is you need a 3d plane, a heli, and something to fly in the racetrack pattern because of how they have 4 separate 15 minute sessions. It kinda sucks because youre almost rushed to fly as much as you can in a certain period of time. Then you have to run back and grab something to fly in the next session. Camp Ronnie is also usually late at night too. The next one is Dec 26 from 9:30PM to 12:30AM. Then its off to Luke and Sue's fly in in Ohio the following morning! It usually works out okay when you run 8 chargers at once like we did at KIEF

Yeah the format at ICR does suck. Thats why we don't go there often. I think I can handle running the chargers with the killer power supply I have now.
