Default rolling harrier help..

hi there guys, well in the last couple of weeks i have been playing with the G4.5 and i think i need to look the radio setup of my Extra 300 50cc from AW. I have the following setup(degr.)
low / high / 3D
Aileron 18 / 25 / 40
Rudder 25 / 35 / 45
Elevator 12 / 20 / 45

Expo -30 -45 -75

Well you guys for not super advance rolling harrier should i be using low rate? it seems that my rolls are too fast and i just can do a few after the nose start to fall. Should i apply full aileron? just a bit and play with rudder and elevator?. Im a little confuse about it. This airplane do great harriers which im trying to get use to and recognize the stall point.

Any feedback will be great.

Since I had the same plane I just did the rolling harrier on low rates but I only had low and high so If you have a middle rate try that for High alpha rolling harrier's which the plane didn't really do (lol it was actually probably me) I would use High rates because it's in that post stall and needs all the surface deflection you can get. Sorry I can't remember how much throw I had.

I use 3D rates set to max throw with my set up which is about 50 degrees rudder, 45 degrees elevator and about 35 degrees aileron. The roll will get very slow when you pick the nose up high. With the angle of attack I try to maintain, the stabs would hit the grass before the wingtip. It just takes a lot of gas to get proficient with it. Use your 3D rates, stay up high and do 4 point rolls as far as you can while keeping that nose about 45 degrees up. Once you master that, do the same thing only with the aileron pegged over and control the roll rate with the angle of attack. The higher you get the nose, the slower it will roll. Just spend lots of hours on the sim, burn lots of gas, and maybe even sleep with your transmitter at night. It'll come to you, just don't stop practicing.

25-30 degrees is probably all you need on the ailerons, but it really depends on the plane. Either way, I think 40 is going to be wayyyy too much. You'll want High/3D rates (45+) for the rudder and elevator. Once you're proficient with rolling harriers, you can control the roll rate with how deep you get into the rudder/elevator inputs. Every plane is different with respect to how much input is needed, but the timing is pretty much universal -- it's all about the timing.

The timing/rythm is just something you'll have to learn, but practicing point rolls and slow rolls will help with the inputs. Also, I'd pick a roll direction, whatever feels must comfortable, and stick with it until you're comfortable/confident. Once you can drive the plane around inside and outside, then practice perfecting the opposite roll direction.

thanks for the advice guys, i tried to put a bit of throttle when the airplane is normal position to keep the nose up, but darm, so difficult to avoid the high speed rolls....Maybe i can change some rate and put li 20 deg on ailerons and almost full deflections on elevator or rudder.

I'm with ya on the expo. Keep the al at 75% but back down the ele and rudder. You won't have to move the sticks as much. It makes it easier to controll the pitch of the plane. use 3d rates just tune them with the expo for feel. I always peg the alirons then control with pitch and throttle. Control the pitch with the ele and rudder. And control the hieght with the throttle.

On my 102" QQ Yak. I use 3D rate everything.

40º on ailerons
55º on elevator
rudder almost hitting the elevators

I use full aileron. Peg the stick.

If I were to guess, you say the airplane is rolling really fast, almost tells me you're not slow enough. How is the roll rate compared to mine in this video?

Harrier rolls start at 4:49

you make a fast roll at 5:23 thats the speed that mines takes with full deflection at 3D rates, if i see your 4:49, thats the speed i want to get...but dont know why i tried and tried without success.

BTW nice video Seth!!!! hope to fly someday like that-

Thanks! Keep up with the practice and you will!

If you mean the three negative snaps at the end is what your rolling speed is, then yes, you are probably rolling too fast.

I think what is more than likely the problem, is that you are too fast (airspeed wise). This means use less throttle, and more elevator/rudder. This will bring the nose up more. Use throttle to control your altitude, elevator/rudder to control your angle of attack/direction.

I have been running all my rates on 3 pos. switch. L/M/H Not sure of the degree, but it is enough to make a nice crisp roll on low rates..... I tune to rates to my likings, not what people specify..... After all, those are just recommendations. But from your post, your 3D rate Expo is too much, IMO. I run no more than 60% expo.... I could stand to back the 3D rate Expo down to 50 or 55%............

Keep practicing!!!!!

yeah i think i will try to low the expos, maybe thats why i cant control my angle of attack on my elevator and rudder due the -75% expo on my futaba...10CG,

Also make sure you are pushing the urdder all the way to the right. I know I have to make a mental note to push going all the way on ths sticks!

will try tomorrow(i have holiday), with 45% expo on rudder and elevator, cause yeah -75% maybe was the problem(well one of the 100 lol). Also i will see if i can setup a rate to practice rolling harrier, maybe 20 deg on ailerons and 45 deg on elevator and rudder so i can apply full stick on ailerons and not worry to apply much degrees there.

I think is time to start to play with the radio setup. Darm i never mess up with mixes also, i wonder how the mix with some elevato and aileron works on knife edges

guys, im having fun with the sim....like 30 min a day on rolling harrier, my quesiton now is...is any bad if right now i feel confortable with throttle and just elevator??? i discover that i feel better applying some throttle when the airplane is inverted so both sticks goes up and down(i apply abit of throttle to keep nose up).

I also spending some times with elevator and rudder also, but dang, i can do it that way applying throttle, i just cant
