What header length are you running and how is your transition?

12.5" and transition is good. I had a cross-over put on the cans. DA calls for 14" and local info recommends 10.5". Go figure. In you position I would start a 14 and trim as required and/or more solid info is available.

I run a Biela 3D prop, sea level and the current temps are about 60 degrees. Engine is turning +5900 on high test and 40:1 Red Line. The 170 has all of the latest updates (cylinder, piston and timing).

Its great, runs perfect once I got the updates all done. I am playing around with header lengths on it at the moment for my Greves pipe. So far, 11" header sucks, too hot and ZERO transition. Jumped up to 14" and huge difference. Lost about 200 - 300 RPM on top end, but the midrange is great. Going to try a little shorter next week possibly.

The weather here is great at the moment, get here if possible.

Hey Jeremy... I have been running 11" headers since July on my DA170 with no problems at all using the KS 95 version 5 cans. Prior to that I used MTW 110 cans on the same 11" headers for one year & 2 months on the DA 170 but when compared, the KS 95 gives better performance (about 240 more rpm's.) than the MTW.

Thanks Wayne. I just purchased the KS 95VS and I am looking for the correct setup. I have some 11 inch headers for KS1090's that I had and I was hoping to use those. When I called DA they were saying 14 inch so I am trying to see what the difference is. I dont think I even have enough room in the plane to make it fit with 14 inch headers.

If you're gonna add the weight of cannisters you might as well just go with pipes. The RE-3's weigh nearly the same, have excellent transition, and add 400-500+ RPM

This is going in my "highly modified" aerotech 300. They were just not designed for pipes unless you really changed things. Plus the fuse is so thin.. it becomes an issue towards a back cause I looked at doing that.

Got it. Maybe Planebender can chime in here? I know he likes the cans on the DA-170 and can probably get a better idea about header length. I don't think you need to run 14" if that would make them too long for your application.

I believe that Bender is using 10.5" with the crossover.
