Side slip to landing...... Think Cub, Champ, Stearman, Pitts, etc. Now go get the basic book of flying called "Stick and Rudder." After reading it you have the urge to walk sideways everywhere you go and make motor sounds followed by a chirping noise........

So, if you want to land a model like this whats the order of control inputs? Rudder first and then add aileron, or the other way around? I think elevator and throttle management are a little more intuitive.

When I've tried this, I start out giving some rudder the plane just wants to turn in the direction of rudder input. I guess I just need more opposite aileron??

You want to dip the wing in the opposite direction of the turn until it stops turning. So if you are putting in right rudder, dip the left wing using left aileron until it stops turning to the right. Maintain this until just before you touch.

Once you do it you can mix and match to start and all through out the maneouver use the controls to modulate to more or less of one or both all at the same time. Just remember that the unloading of the controls, of this style are just as important if not more so 'cause it can "bite you" if you are not aware of how your inputs to neutral or other controls are performed.I hope you got what I am trying to say here.

Any landing in a Pitts you walk away from is a good landing, if you can grease a Pitts in all the time you can land anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The hardest part of flying a Pitts is putting it back on the ground without balling it up, they are very squirrelly. My hat is off to your dad if he greased them in ALL the time.

I have flown planes from the Cessna 150 to the G-5 and the hardest to land is the Pitts, a close second is the Skybolt.

Once you guys get the slip down if you want to really make it look good just roll the plane on over to it's back. The control inputs remain the same, establish your normal upright slip, then just gently roll it over so if you have the right wing on the top the right wing will stay on top once you roll it over. Then you are doing an inverted slip the amount of rudder input will remain basically the same throughout the maneuver. It's easy to do and really makes you look like a pro.
