Default New Tail Wheel Steering Setup.

A new tail wheel steering setup

Here is my alternate method of tail wheel steering using silicone fuel tubing instead of springs.
I got tired of springs always breaking plus they are heavy.

The materials:

    • Silicone fuel tubing
    • #4 socket head screws
    • #4 Metal clevisí
    • Small cable ties
Hereís what I did to get rid of the springs and make an easy attachment.
  1. Take a piece of silicone fuel tubing, insert the socket head end of the #4 screw into the fuel tubing.
  2. Use a small cable tie to secure the tubing to the screw.
  3. Thread the clevis on.
  4. Cut the tubing to length and repeat for the other end.
This makes a nice replacement for springs and is easy to attach to the rudder and wheel hardware. You canít pull the fuel tubing off the screw, the tubing will break first.

I've seen this method before in another thread. Looks like a great idea.

I been using the same set for years with no problems. The only thing different that I do is use fishing swivels instead of the screw and clevis. I cut off the round loop, leaving only the snap link part and the barrel part in the middle. The barrel goes into the tubing with a zip tie to secure it.

I have also seen this setup. I need to try it out. I have never been a fan of steerable tail wheels. But when you go to fields where it is pavement and it is windy it is a pain to taxi! Thanks for the pics.

Nickb,

Do you have any pictures of your setup. Sounds kinda cool, but not being into fishing, i can't visualize the fishing parts in your setup.
